Mizzou IEEE group outside the Advanced Photon Source at Argonne National Laboratory
Mizzou UAV Team
Mizzou IEEE has recently initiated an Unmanned Arial Vehicle project and
much progress has been made over the summer semester. The project involves
building an aerial vehicle to compete and complete a task autonomously. The
project has been a hit around Mizzou and since its initiation the Mizzou UAV
Team has since become an official university recognized student organization.
We greatly thank the AES society and Jim Leonard at Boeing for all their help
and support making this possible.

2010 MS&T Academy of Electrical &
Computer Engineering Highlights
The MS&T Academy of Electrical & Computer Engineering have elected Boeing Sen-ior Technical Fellow, Jim V. Leonard, as Director, on April 22, 2010. Jim was elected to the Academy of Electrical and Computer Engineering on February 7, 2003. Since then he has attended the regular yearly meetings of the AECE at MS&T, Rolla, Missouri. There are six Directors. Also serving on the board are Vice-President Dennis Leitterman and Secretary/Treasurer Roger Volk. The AECE is comprised of 130 plus members, and the current President is Rich Eimer, who has re-energized the members to assist deserving MS&T ECE students. The AECE has an endowment of $90,000.00 for scholarships and provides an addi-tional four to six scholarships yearly directly form the AECE budget. Recipi-ents of these scholarships make presentations to the AECE yearly. At the 2010 meeting, the AECE also voted to fund 60 new tablet chairs for classrooms and the campus has agreed to match these contributions and fund 60 more, reports ECE Dept Chair Dr. Kelvin Erikson. At the AECE Reception & Dinner at Zeno’s that evening, five new members were inducted into the MS&T AECE including Michael J. Emanual from Boeing Flight Test. After dinner, Clinton Guenther, VP of Manufacturing and Cody Massar, Team Member, from MS&T’s Solar Car Team, made a presentation entitled, “The History and the Improvements of a Solar Car”. This year’s race will come thru Rolla on 23 June on its way to the finish line in Chicago. We have high hopes for an-other win for the team. The current Solar Car, Solar Miner VII, is designed and built by MS&T students at their Student Design Center (SDC). It is currently located in metal garage adjacent to the Havener Center on campus. Plans are to renovate the MS&T Miner Rec Building (known around Rolla as the old Holsum Bread Bakery). It will prove 23,000 square feet of space (10 times that of the current SDC). In addi-tion to providing more work and storage space, the new SDC will be designed to show off winning solar cars, human powered vehicles and other successful pro-jects. During this same weekend, the MS&T Order of the Golden Shillelagh (OGS) held their annual ball. The 58 new inductees included Jim Leonard and his wife Bar-bara Sue Johnston. The OGS is the MS&T Donor Society.
