“For our South African operation we merged two companies. For almost everyone everyday work changed on various levels – also physically as we moved from separate buildings into one. We experienced a lot of apprehen- sion, and rumours grew in our organisation. After the change workshops with next level things were clear and attitudes changed. In some cases the teams even had used the workshop to completely re-organise themselves and they were looking forward to working together. Bringing next level consulting in made a big difference.”

Marius Fourie, Country Manager, Dräger South Africa

Every time new infrastructure is launched, a new strategy is implemented, the organisation is being restructured for reasons like cost cutting, mergers, efficiency, legal requirements, etc, people have to change the way they do things.

Change can be as small as a new team leader or as big as a restructure or a merger. Constant change within organisations has become a reality in our work lives. It happens all around us and all the time.

All change affects the organisation’s performance and employees’ motivation and morale on many levels… some more than others!

„Change is pain. Organisational change is unexpectedly difficult because it provokes sensations of physiological discomfort.“*

Change is tough on a personal level. Treating change like business as usual and ignoring our instinctive response often leads to counterproductive behaviour. People disengage or even leave the organisation, avoid taking responsibility or simply follow the letter but not the spirit of an instruction. Sick leave tends to increase, defensive attitudes take hold and office politics as well as rumours thrive. When this happens it costs a business time and money and usually does not yield the results the change was meant to bring.

At its core change management means ensuring that natural human needs regarding change are adequately met so that the people won’t be in the way of success and instead become the drive behind it.

Mismanaged change is the No. 1 reason why leaders fail.

“Change” has a very specific

meaning in the world of

organisations.

What is change?

Why change management?

How does change management work?

next level consultants work based on a tried and tested formula for managing change. These six components will lead your change project towards success:

Inspiration & LeadershipLeaders have to understand, believe and tell the story of their change. They need to

convey the necessity of and vision for the change.

Emotion & MotivationIndividuals need adequate time and space to deal with their emotional response and to develop their own best way to adapt to the change.

Organisational Climate & EnergyEnergy needs to be injected into the organisation in order to change habits, processes and attitudes and to keep up the momentum.

Training & Capacity Development Different ways of doing things often require new skills. Lacking skills can become a barrier to change.

Transparency & CommunicationTrust and motivation are created by transparent and pro-active sharing of information. PLANNING &

“The support of next level when introducing a project management office at T-Systems UK was practical, hands on and made a real difference in moving through this huge change project. We worked together, everyone participated and we all came out with a clear understanding of what was needed and why. Brilliant work! Thank you next level.”

Walter Sedlacek, Head of PMO T-Systems UK in 2008/2009, T-Systems
