• Fundamental niche = the range it could possibly use– I could eat insects and

reptiles too

• Realized niche = range it actually uses– I only eat mammals, birds,

fish, plants

– Limited by competition

Generalist = organism that can live in many different environments or use many different resources

• Raccoon: lives anywhere it finds a hole, eats anything

Specialist = organism that can only live in specific places or eat specific things

• Panda: eats only bamboo
