FemConsult – A database on women scientists
FemConsult is an online database created by CEWS for wo-
men post-docs and professors. It contains up-to-date sci-
entific profiles of several thousand female experts from all
disciplines in German-speaking areas. FemConsult makes it
possible to quickly and easily find and contact women sci-
entists for queries or offers.
The online database can be accessed via

GESIS – Supporting social science research since 1986 in all phases of research:
• Research: Information on data, literature, research
projects, important institutions and conferences
• Study planning: Consultation and services for
planning and conducting a survey
• Data collection: Consultation and services during the
data collection phase
• Data analysis: Support, consultation and data for
secondary analysis and reference, analyzing tools
• Archiving and registering: Longterm permanent
archiving and registration of data and publications
In addition, GESIS offers user conferences and research methods training events for all these phases.

CEWS provides comprehensive expertise in the areas of:

Current projects include:
• GenPORT – An Internet Portal for Sharing Knowledge-
and Inspiring Collaborative Action on Gender and Sci-
ence. The project creates an online resource portal for
organizations and individuals in the field of gender equa-
lity in science, technology and innovation across the glo-

• INTEGER – Institutional Transformation for Effecting
Gender Equality in Research. INTEGER partners improve
gender equality in research institutions through sustaina-
ble institutional transformations. (FP7)
• EFFEKTIV! For Greater Family Friendliness in German
Higher Education Institutions. Effektiv! creates a web-
based information and consultation platform on the ef-
fectiveness of family friendly measures in Germany
(BMBF).
• HGiW - Change of Gender Equality Structures in Hig-
her Education. The project team analyses structural chan-
ges of gender equality work in higher education. (BMBF)
• DFG-Toolbox - DFG-Toolbox on the DFG’s Research-
Oriented Standards on Gender Equality. This toolbox
gives online access to a selected collection of examples
of quality-assured gender equality measures in science.

Policy consultation CEWS
CEWS provides its knowledge and research-based services to
researchers and practitioners in gender equality, universities,
research institutes, scientific organizations and political
committees. These target groups benefit in various ways
from the synergetic effects of CEWS’ four primary areas of
activity listed above. With regard to science politics and
policy-making at regional, federal and EU-level, CEWS staff
is involved in expert groups, panels, parliamentary hearings
and committees on a constant and on an ad-hoc basis. In
order to fulfill its tasks even more effectively CEWS keeps
systematically developing and enhancing its services.

CEWS provides a sound basis for decision-making as well as
innovative policy options for the German science system by
