CES TS Software – Version 1.8.65 Last Update 31/05/2005 06:52 - 1 -

Version 1.8.65 contains many new features, modifications and bug fixes to version 1.8.64.Other than bug fixing patches, this will be the last major release of CES Version 6. All futuredevelopment will now be on Version 8. The exception to this will be the Sentinel brandedproduct that will remain separate from both Version 6 and Version 8 of the main CES product.

This Document is split into 5 sections, these are:

• General Information – PLEASE READ• Enhancements• Resolved Issues• Future Development• Test and Set-Up Issues

Under each section will be the Major Changes/Fixes made to that section plus a briefdescription of their basic functions.

Hyperlinks have been used in these release notes and in some cases link to PDFfiles in the CES Documents folder that would be installed as part of the Latest CESInstall Shield process. If you have not used the install shield process on thecomputer you are reading this document on; you should refer to the CES websiteto view any documents mentioned.

Why have we changed to another version?

The current product has for over 4 years now been developed on FoxPro Version 6. We havetried our hardest to continually push the boundaries of this version but in the past year asmore and more faster touch screen hardware has been placed on the market, CES is startingto run slowly when in sales mode of a normal restaurant or bar operation.

For this reason we have decided to move to FoxPro version 8 which allows our programmersto dramatically speed up the speed of sales mode and at the same time introduce featuresthat would not be possible on the older version of FoxPro.

Before closing off Version 6, we wanted to complete some very import development andmodules. This we have now done.

As part of these release notes we have created a very useful CES Touch Database ErrorMessages document. You will find this on the latest CD or the website or [email protected] for a copy.

MSCHRT20.OCX must now be registered using the “regsvr32” command as part of thisversion as it then corrects an error that would have occurred when running the hourly reportfrom the reports in sales mode.

Enhancements Back To Top

Listed below are the details of the various changes and enhancements made to the Software.

To activate these options (where needed) please see the System Settings form for them.

Branch Enquiry.

We have added the Supplier information to the product search for each plu. Also a Pricerange search criteria for products, default range is 0.00 to 999999.99 and the found productsdisplayed in price order. In addition to these 2 features there is also a Picture display buttonthat will display a picture for the associated PLU if one exists.

Operator set up screen.

2 Additional fields have been added to the operator screen "Title" and "Qualifications" These2 fields are purely optional but will give added scope to your operator set up. The operatorsTitle and Qualifications will be printed out on all receipts if they are in use.

Customer Sales History

Now displays up to 99 months of previous sales, if the available date is present.

Scale Link with Avery BerkelThe completed accreditation of our scale link allowing you to link to any Avery Berkelweighing scale with CES TS. The hardware that you use will be subject to separate approvalthat the manufacturer will need to have. Multiple SuppliersCES now has the option of multiple suppliers per product.

Gellers SuperStock LinkCES now has the option to link the very popular Multi Branch head office package.

Loyalty in Accounts ModuleA large amount of development had been done adding loyalty to accounts module. Key setup words to look for are “Suppress”and “Loyalty Points with Accounts”. A new report called“accountsloyaltypoints.frx” as been written and a new button definition called“ACCOUNTSLOYALTY” which will allow you to display and then print if needed a summary of

an accounts points. We have added a “Date Of Birth and an Expiry Date into the accountssection. Finally there is now an option under the Database controls section that allows you torest all points back to zero at any time. I.e. an end of year. Ideal for clubs of any kind.

Remote EngineThe remote engine now can not be closed without first stopping the engine and thenconfirming you want to close. It also minimises to the windows tray as against the taskbar.The exe will not open more than once.

New ReportsSome reports have been added or enhanced with this release. They as follows:-

Hand Held Stock TakingWork has been completed on the use of the PDT1100 and the ScanPal2. Using the screenbelow as a set up tool, CES is now carry out stock takes on these hand held terminals.

Ghost ItemsGhost items are used as a away of tracking stock when you sell an item in many differentways from a single source.

Lets say that you have a stock item (BARREL OF BEER with a size attached i.e. 49500ml). Wethen link back our products to this stock item saying that when we sell a GLASS OF BEER wetake 285 of 49500ml from stock each time we sell it. We can link as many products to thisstock item as we want and the stock will be correct. Before we only had 6 price levels andneeded to set up recipes for this form of stock control. Now we can sell an item is an numberof ways at different prices but have the stock all controlled by the stock taking and orderingof only one item.

The set up of a ghost item is as simple as selecting the tick box on the screen below. Thesystem then will report on sales made of this item but for stock purposes, it is all connectedback to the master product.

Nisa LinkThere is now a link from CES to Nisa. You can download a weekly price file through the NisaSpedi link we bring in the file and change prices and add any new products. We have startedto deal with PNP promotions by automatically creating a price shifts within CES setting thedate ranges for the start and end of that promotion. More work is expected in the new year.

Stock Module

Development has been carried out on the orders section of the stock module allowing a TotalPrice (Inc) to be entered for a product line. This allows for invoices that are printed to includedelivery charges and possible finance fees to be entered quickly without having to carry outlengthy calculations on each line before entering the order into CES.

Another development to this section has been the addition of an internal report that allowsfor the full detail of a suggested order to be printed on an A4 sheet before sending to asupplier. This can also be useful for checking that what the system has suggested you orderis what you want to order as the internal report shows your current stock and case coststhat you would not want a supplier to know.

There is now a Password on the product delete button.Right click on the delete button in the product screen and you can password protect it.

There is now a check that is done when a file checker is carried out.

We are still trying to find an exact reason for ******** appearing in the STOCK andSALES_QTY. We think at this time that it is a divide by zero when receiving in stock.

Addition to product set-up that now does not allow you to save a new productwithout inserting a valid department and supplier.

New Settings now availableA good tip here is to use the search facility in the set-up section. Type in “Supp” andsearch. You would then get all options with “Supp” in the description.

Added a new field to ACCOUNTS called “Nonaccount” into the audit.dbf

TEC and SHARP OPOS Drivers made necessary checks to make sure that the MSR, CashDrawer Port and Customer Display all worked correctly.

Loyalty made changes to the way the software works when loyalty with “Sales & Products”are selected. It used to place the points gained for the value of the sale against the first itemin the sale which was misleading as it would also have the points gained for this product inthe same total.

Stock Adjustments did not work with a scanner.

Customer screen The screen was cutting off at the bottom in sales mode and the qwerty inthe back office also cut off at the bottom of the screen.

Resolved Issues Back To Top

FreeTextWe have fixed many issues with freetext being displayed on receipts. The affected receiptswere ;

Account Orders deposit receiptSales receipt with discountsMini StatementsExport salesPaid in account receiptslast issued receipt.

Manual Sign On

Fixed an issue with manual sign on in conjunction with "compulsory customer at sign on"would result in the on screen keyboard vanishing.

Hot Keys

When using hot keys to sign on / off it was reported that there has been some screen displayissues. These have been corrected.

"COPY" now appears on the 2nd issue of a receipt as originally intended.

Re-worked the way VAT is applied when using a discount with an export sale, this nowcalculates correctly.

Correct an issue with applying discounts to weighable items. This mainly affecteditems that were sold in quantities less than 1. The discount associated with them was notbeing calculated on their actual quantity.

Resolved issues with running 3rd party external forms through sales mode, thiswas a very specific problem that should not affect many people.

Numeric overflow in the Multi suppliers section of products has been resolved. It is nowno longer possible to assign a case qty of less than 1.

Occasional corruption of the EOD print out has been fixed. No longer will random PLUsappear at the top of an EOD.

Error "Sales" not found has been resolved when using stock enquiry.

"Additional parameters required" error has been fixed when using charge sheets withUNC. Again this issue was very specific and did not affect many people.

Stocharge sheetsck Orders now no longer gather the price from the Stock File whenediting an existing order.

Bookings - When setting a Charge Sheet to Print 1 or more receipts itwould error with 'No Parameter', however I cannot recreate this and so may

have fixed when making other changes.

Other Fixes

TUOCH closing down when you exit certain screens i.e. Automatic archive screen.Customer, PLU and Account codes can now be 7 digits in length.Numeric overflow when using next auto customer buttonCustomer number would reset to 1 under certain circumstances ,When using the search facility in customer orders. Now takes the order status selection fromthe main screen and filters the orders by "Outstanding" or "Completed"Operator daily sales transaction count displaying the incorrect number for customer sales ..Charge sheets in sales mode .. When printing out an amendment made to a charge sheet insales mode TOUCH would crash with "No parameter statement found "Discounts now work correctly with weighable items ..

Com Scanners - When going into Forms where Scanners were allowed(Products for example) then when you went into a screen off of that formthat didn't allow Scanners then it would disable the scanner in the originalform (try printing labels from Products). Scanner availability is nowchecked whenever a form/screen gets the focus so this issue should besorted.

Voids are now marked with the Transaction Number in which they tookplace. However if a Void is made and there are no items are left and thenthe operator signs off, as no Transaction Number has been allocated theseVOIDS will not have a transaction number.

Service Charge question will now once again be asked (if Optional) whenprinting a Requested Bill.

The Countdown for Auto Sale Completion will now begin only when theContinue button appears so that if anything should stop the button fromappearing (for example the Remote Printer being offline).

Voided items that were part of a Charge Sheet and had a Remote Printerwill now correctly be allocated to the Sale and thus appear in EOD and SalesReview reports.

Department and Group Ordering now working correctly on Last Receipt, remote printingand direct receipt.

Scanning (Serial/COM Scanners) now work in Goods In.

Modified Report for Allsorts to work with Ex VAT Pricing on the sales Profit / Margin ByDepartment – Summary to calculate the margin % correctly. Report name is“prodsales_margin_dept_sexvat.FRT”.

Tidied up File Checker clashes with some (older) data sets.

Credit Notes now no longer ask for a Customer when you redeem them if youhave the setting 'Use Customers with Credit Notes' set to 'No'

Accounts Payments Form now shows the correct Balances for the Aged Analysis.

Sales Grid advances correctly when selling Multiple Quantities of items.

Sales Grid now colours additional connected lines as the parent line (i.e. Ifa line shows the Department below then that department line will also becoloured as per the Item Line)

TotalPrice shown on the Larger Sales Grid now includes the VAT if the Systemis Ex VAT but has the new setting Show VAT set to YES.

Fixed the bug with scanning the Customers ID in Sales.

Scanpal to read in .CSV file without a header line.

Fixes a bug when using the buttons to log off (10101).

Fixed a bug with the Stock Supplier Code search form.

Fixed a problem in the File Checker when checking some stock.dbf files

Add the Dev work for the VAT changes

Added a new option to remove the Numbers in brackets when openingSheets, so Room 1 was shown rather than Room 1 (3).

Fixed Shelf Edge label error (Inverness) If you created a new item and as part of thisticked one of the shelf or label boxes, you would get an error when you tried to save thatnew product.

Removed Menu's within Sales Mode

Syntax Error when trying to Reset Account Loyalty Points.

Error with Group Report

Report Source has been removed from Report (i.e. Operator)

When a non-existing Menu is called a better error and no follow upscreen are shown.

Recipes are being totalled correctly on Final Receipt (PRS)

Menu Quantities are being correctly counted again from Persistent menus. (Lapsley)

Current Receipt no longer errors with 'Alias Tempsales not found' (PRS)

Also had a quick go at trying to make the Numeric buttons under the grid quicker but notsure this will make any difference (PRS)

Plus the Final Receipt will now also print out in Department order just like theCurrent Receipt, and so this fixes a long standing issue. I will make the changes later in theweek so it also prints in Group order. This using the “Order Local Receipt” option.

Keyboard Presets don't work in 1.8.64 – Fixed. A Y with two dots used to appear whenusing presets. You still see the symbol appear but are cleared immediately without coursingany operational issues.

Tableplanner.exeWhen transferring a table the colour on the table planner(Status) was not moved to newtable. When you opened a table , sold some items and voided all those items the table colourdid not reset. You where unable to delete all the rooms.

Operator/Operand Datatype Mismatch when changing room inside Viewer - Fixed

Creating an order using a template. A great deal of time has been spent on this versionmaking sure that this order process works correctly. We are now happy that it does. There isa three page explanation of how we recreated the errors and then fixed them which caneither be emailed to you by sending a request to [email protected] or if you havejust installed the latest CD, clicking HERE.

Operator Interrupt. If you had two machines networked and signed on the computer thatis not the server and then start up the server and try and sign on you got an access deniederror.

Product sale by Group report had a function argument value when trying to run.

Shelf Edge Labels printed squashed up barcode when testing using what appeared to be agood ean 13 digit number but worked ok on the second label. A new report called“SHELFLABEL.LBX” and “SHELFLABEL.LBT” are part of the latest release.

Auto Next Customer did not work when you had “Get unused Customer Code before usingnext code auto” set to YES

OCOMSCANNER appeared when refunding items via an account. This was resolved bysending a non corrupted “A4_ACCOUNT_CREDITNOTE” report.

TENDERED values where displayed incorrectly when paying by a tender other than tender 1.It used to remember the tender value last used on the tender1.

PASSWORDBUTTON used to appear when you went into the product set-up.

Sales Grid work has been done to fix the compression that sometimes occurs when thesoftware is closed incorrectly. We believe it was coursed by a windows font not been resetcorrectly.

Price Offsets did not display on sales screen.

Customers It was reported that if you selected Customer from sales mode, entered anaccount number you knew did not exist, selected NO to creating Customer record, thenpressed the magnifying glass on the customer field, entered another account number in, yougot a windows selection screen.

Department change description “anal code” on department set-up

Import / Export of Products When using the product group search icon in the productscreen (Back Office) it would select incorrect items against certain departments. This wasdown to the fact that the excel used to create the products and the unique identifier was thesame. We now have a feature that when using excel TO IMPORT PRODUCTS, it willautomatically make sure the unique identifier is unique. To solve the issue you have, installpatch, export product file then re-import.

Test Notes & Set-up Issues Back To Top

Version 1.8.27Tested using: Code Red, Intermec C4 Label Printer

VAT CodesWe have had a few Questions regarding VAT Codes and the way in which the Stock isupdated for them.

We recommend you set up your VAT Codes in order. By this we mean that if you have 4 VATCodes, then you set them up using Code 1, 2, 3 and 4.

This is because when you assign a Stock Item a VAT Code, the number it assigns is thenumber in which the option you selected appeared in the list. So if you picked the last optionin our example it would assign VAT Code 4.

Receipt Printing – Baud Rate IssueRecently we were presented with a very strange problem. When a very large (300+) itemsreceipt was printed, it would after a while corrupt the print and continue to print out rubbishuntil it had finished. After some testing we managed to re-create this problem

We then continued to test various solutions and found one that works. The problem onlyoccurred when printing using 19200 Baud Rate. When we switched our printers to 9600Baud Rate, then problem stopped.

Therefore we recommend that if anyone experiences this problem, they turn the Baud Ratedown to 9600 and try again.
