  • 1.DLSU-CES BRIDGE Building Contest SY 2009-2010 Technical Guidelines

2. Truss Bridge Competition 3. Bridge Specifications

  • Design atruss bridgethat will be laid on two smooth supports with a span length(S) of 560 mm .
  • The bridge must satisfy the following specifications. (Refer to the figures)
    • 560 mm Length (L) 770 mm
    • Width (B) 140 mm
    • Height ofTruss (H) 100 mmfrom the flat surface of the deck to the top
    • Depth (D) 50 mmfrom the support surface to the flat surface of the bridge deck
    • H + D 150 mm
    • Weight (W) 1.50 kg

  • No portion of the bridge structure shall extendbelowthe support surfaces.
  • The bridge structure shall besymmetricalabout its longitudinal and transverse centerlines.
  • The bridge must have asmooth surfacefor the bridge deck where atoy vehicle must be able to move.

10. Materials and Construction

  • The bridge must be constructed using plainpopsicle sticks only .
  • The popsicle sticksmay be cut or sandedin any manner.
  • Onlyall purpose glue(white) must be used to connect the popsicle sticks.
  • No other materialsmust be used.
  • Do not paint, coat or stainthe bridge with any foreign substance.

11. Sample Bridge L = 700 mm, H = 200 mm, B = 130 mm,W = 1.26 kg 12. Pre-Qualification Screening

    • REASONS FOR DISQUALIFICATION
    • Not aTruss Bridge
    • No flat surface on bridge deck where a toy car may pass
    • Does not satisfy minimum required bridge span length (S)
    • Exceeds the maximum total length (L)
    • Exceeds the maximum height (H)
    • Exceeds the maximum width (B)
    • Exceeds the maximum depth (D)
    • Exceeds H+D limit of 150 mm
    • Exceeds the maximum weight (W)
    • Other materials (paint, coating, etc) aside from popsicle sticks and glue used
    • Portions of the bridge extend below the supports
