2016-2017

Hello Awana Family! We are so glad you have decided to have your child come to our Awana Club! We consider it a privilege to provide opportunities for your child’s physical, mental, and spiritual growth. We want our Awana Clubbers to realize that God loves them and the through His Son, Jesus Christ, we can choose to have salvation and a relationship with Him. Learning His Word and obeying Him gives them meaningful and rewarding lives. We accomplish this through Bible memory, games, achievements, and fellowship. Awana also helps clubbers learn a discipline for work, play, and study within their own peer group. Awana encourages clubbers to attend their family church. However, if you do not have a church, we’d like to invite you to join us here at Solid Rock Community Church.

We meet at Kentwood High School Sunday’s at 10:30am 25800 164th Ave SE Covington, WA 98042

THE SEGMENTS OF AN AWANA CLUB NIGHT

OPENING CEREMONY • Flag Salute (Pledge to the American Flag) • Opening Prayer • Announcements

GAME TIME • Clubbers play games at the Awana Game Square. • Our goal is for each clubber to have the opportunity to participate in good sportsmanship, have a good time, and get a little energy out of their system. • A way clubbers can earn points for their team color.

HANDBOOK TIME The handbook is a vital tool for your child’s success in Awana. It helps them to learn about God and it reinforces positive moral standards. • This is where we have the opportunity to help clubbers “hide God’s Word in their heart!” • Leaders guide clubbers in understanding the scripture they memorize. • Clubber will pass “sections” by scripture memorization and thereby earn awards that will be displayed on their uniform. Clubbers earn one Awana Buck for every section said. • A way for clubbers to earn points for their team color.

COUNCIL TIME • A Bible message, skit, testimony, or an object lesson is used to bring the scripture to life. • Our goal is to REACH children by presenting the way to accept God’s free gift of salvation. • This is our opportunity to TEACH them the “How to’s” of applying what they’ve learned about God’s Word in Handbook Time.

REGISTRATION FEE’S & REPLACEMENTS: To keep our Registration fee’s low we have anticipated that each clubber is enrolled in their club for 2-3 years. Registration fee includes one handbook & one shirt/vest for the duration of that club. It also includes an advancement / extra credit book for that club. Should you misplace any of the items below the replacement costs are as follows: Handbook/Extra Credit book replacement cost: $10.00 T & T Shirt replacement cost: $15.00 Cubbies or Sparks Vest replacement cost: $10.00

HERE ARE SOME THINGS TO REMEMBER: 1. No more than 2 helps per section are given in order to receive

credit. A section is from signature to signature. 2. Sections are passed when said to an Awana leader during club

times or when special arrangements are made with the Awana Commander for the purpose of completing a book to receive a year-end award.

3. Help your child to be disciplined by suggesting that they take 10 to 15 minutes a day to work on their handbook. (Sparks & Cubbies handbooks come with a CD for aid in verse memorization.)

4. DO your best to explain the meaning of each verse. You will find that they memorize more quickly if they understand what they are memorizing. If you want to confirm the meaning with your child’s Director, Leader or Commander, feel free to give them a call. They want to help!

5. Parents should initial beside the sections they feel their children are ready to recite to their leader.

6. Encourage your child to work on no more than 5 sections per week. This is the maximum number of sections which can be passed at each club meeting and is more than enough to absorb for most children. Our leaders want to make sure that the clubbers fully understand what they memorize. The handbooks are designed to be finished in one school-year - this is easily obtained if the clubber recites 2 or 3 sections per week.

7. Year-end awards are achieved by completing a book.
