CEOSnet

• CEOSnet is a virtual network organization;– Utilizes existing government and academic

networks.

• Intended to support CEOS/WGISS related network activities.

• Network performance monitoring was a critical component of CEOSnet.

CEOSnet Monitoring

• CEOSnet monitoring gives indications of application-level performance.

• Network performance is tested between CEOSnet hosts throughout the world on various networks.– Performance is impacted by:

• Delay (round-trip times, distance);• Congestion (packet loss);• CEOSNet host configuration.

• Monitoring is done by the NASA Ensight system; – Andy Germain, GSFC / Swales Aerospace.

Ensight

• The NASA Ensight system was developed by EOS to passively and actively monitor and record historical network performance;
