    Getting StartedTo play Centurion, you need a computer with at least one floppy driveand 640K of memory or 384K for Tandy 16-color. You re system mustbe running on 0 0 5 2 1 to 3 3 f you want to use a mouse, you need an

    IBM-compatible mouse and an installed mouse driver. Centurioncomes with three 5 25 inch disks or two 3.5 inch disks.

    5 25 inch users - The game comes with one Program Disk and twoDATA Disks. You need to copy the Program Disk and only one ofthe DATA disks. Find the DATA Disk appropriate to yourcomputer s graphics mode:

    DATA 1 Disk - EGA or Tandy graphic modesDATA Disk - VGA or MCGA graphics modes

    3.5 inch users - The game comes with two Program Disks: EGATandy 16 color Program Disk and VGA/MCGA Program Disk.You need to copy only the Program Disk appropriate to yourcomputer.

    Loading - Hard Drive UsersBoot your computer with 0 0 5 (any version from 2 1 to 3.3).

    Copying the GameTo copy Centurion onto your hard disk:

    1. Type C: and press Enter. (Type the appropriat e drive letter ifyour hard disk isn t designated as C.)

    2. Type MD\CENTURION and press Enter.3. Insert the Progr am Disk into drive A or B (3.5 inch users: Make

    sure you insert the approp riate Prog ram Disk for your computer - either the VGA/MCGA Program Disk or the EGA/Tandy 16 color Program Disk.)

    4. f you inserted the Progr am Disk into drive A, typeCOPY A: . C:\CENTURION and press Enter. f you inserted

    the Progra m Disk into driveB,

    type COPYB: .

    C:\CENTURION and press Enter. 5.25 inch users: Repeat steps3 and 4 for the DATA Disk appropri ate to your computer.

    Load i ng - Floppy Disk Users

    lay using your original disks - instead, make copies of your disksnd play from the copies. f you re playing from 5 .25 inch disks, you ll

    One rive SystemTo copy Centurion wit h a one drive system:

    1. Put your DOS disk in drive A. Type A: and press Enter.2. Type DISKCOPY and press Enter.

    3. You re asked to enter the source disk; insert the Progr am Disinto the drive and press Enter. The computer will tell yoto insert the sour ce disk (the Progr am Disk) and when tthe destination disk (the blank disk).5.25 inch users: Repeat steps 2 and 3 for the DATA Diskpriate to your computer.

    Two rive SystemFollow this procedure if both drives are the same size. f your dare not the same size, follow the instructi ons for one dri ve systems. Tcopy Centuri on with a two drive system:

    1 Put your DOS disk in drive A Type A: and press Enter.2. Type DISKCOPY A: B: and press Enter.3. You re prompted to insert the source disk in drive A an

    destination disk in drive B. Insert the Program Disk in dand the blank disk in drive B; press Enter. 5.25 inch useRepeat steps 2 and 3 for the DATA Disk appropr iate tocomputer .

    DOS commands may vary. f you have any difficulties withcopying, refer to your DOS manual for specific information oncopying files.

    Starting the GameTo start Centurion from a floppy disk:

    1 f you have a mouse, plug it in and load your mouse driver(follow the manufacturer s instructions). PS 2 model 25 and 30users: For best results, connect your mouse to the serial port.

    2 Insert your copy of the Program Disk into drive A or B3. Type A: or B: (whichever drive you put the disk in) and press

    Special Loading FeaturesCenturion automatically detects the best graphics mode for youromputer; however, there may be occasions when you ll want tohange the graphic mode. For example, maybe your computer isapable of handl ing VGA mode, but you d rather view the game in

    EGA mode. The program does not automatically detect the best soundmode for your computer (except for AdLib and Tandy). f you wa n t

    o use a Roland card instead of your internal speaker, you ll need tonstruct your computer to use the Roland card.

    To load Centurion in a different graphic or sound mode, you havtype an argument after the loading command, CENTURIO. Thearguments you can use are:

    Ignore mouse and use the keyboard only

    Let s say you want to load the game in VGA graphics mode. Firstyou d make sure you ve copied the di sk with VGA data (DATA 2 Dor VGA/MCGA Prog ram Disk) to your floppy or hard disk. Neyou d type CENTURIO V and press Enter. You can type argumenfor graphics and sound modes into the same command line - f

    Music On/Offress Ctrl-S to turn the music on and off.

    ntering Roman Provincesou can enter provinces only from the Map.

    Move the cursor to a Roman provinceand press the left mouse button or thespace bar.

    Moving Legions From the Map

    Mouse Users - Move the cursor to a legion and press the right mousebutton. The ghost legion icons indicate the provinces you canmove into and the fleets you can board. Point to the province youwant to move into or the fleet you want to board and press a mousebutton.

    Land BattleOnce you've selected a formation and a tactic, the battle begins.

    Directing Individual Unitso give orders to individual units on the battlefield, pause the game

    clicking a mouse button or pressing Enter or the spacebar. Nowcan direct any troops within your general's sphe re of influence. Toselect a unit, place the cursor on the uni t and click a mouse bu tton o rpress Enter . A small dot appears on the lower comer of the unitand the Unit Status Box appears.

    Mouse Users

    the direction and distance you want the unit to travel, release themouse button.

    Naval Battlence you ve selected a flagship, the splash screen appears . Click a

    mouse button or press Enter or the space bar to begin the battle be

    ween your flagships. You can only fight naval battles usi ng the keyoard. To control your flagship, use the following keys:Speed up

    Retreatingo flee a naval battle, move your flagship toward any edge of thecreen, or simply press R A message will appear asking you if youant to reengage the battle. Select Yes to continue the battle or No to

    etreat. f you escape the enemy, a message will appear telling youwhich sea you retreated to. You fleet automatically retreats with your

    agship. 10

    Racing ChariotsOnce you ve selected Race Now, the charioteers line up at the sline . Click a mouse butt on or press Enter or the space bar to begrace.

    Controlling Your Chariot with the MouseMove the mouse to the right to steer your chariot toward the outsthe track; move the mouse to the left to steer your chariot towarinside of the track. Pull back on the mouse to slow down. To whorses, press a mouse button. f an opponent is off to your left,the left mouse butto n to whip your opponent. f he s to your rigpress the right mouse button to whip him.

    Gladiator ShowOnce you ve chosen your gladiator and is opponent, you see theColosseum. Click a mouse button or press Enter or the spacebar tobegin combat. You can only control your gladiator using the keyboardTo control your gladiator, use the following keys:
