Route A - The Caffarella Valley and the Appian Way stretch between the Cecilia Metella Tomb and the Appia Antica Info Point. Distance: 6.5 km Difficulty: easy

Historical-naturalistic – The Caffarella Valley and the

Ancient Appian way from “Tomba di Cecilia Metella”

and the Service Center Appia Antica (6,5km - 2 h

30min by bike, 3h 30min on foot)

A ride through the naturalistic and archaeological

beauties of the Caffarella Valley and the first three

miles of the Ancient Appian way. Starting from the

treasures of the Caffarella Valley, crossed by the river Almone, you will arrive to mile III of the Ancient

Appian way where the majestic “Tomba di Cecilia Metella” and the monumental area of Emperor

Massenzio (including “Circo”, “Villa” and “Mausoleo di Romolo”) stand.

Route B – The Ancient Appian Way stretch between the “Domine Quo Vadis?” Church and the V Mile Sepulchers. Typology: historical and archaeological route in a characteristic landscape. Distance: 8 km (8,5km - 3h by bike, only one way 3h on foot) Difficulty: easy Archeological – the Ancient Appian way from the “Domine Quo vadis?” church up to “Villa dei Quintili”. Unique archaeological itinerary to discover the monuments of the Regina viarum. Starting from the “Domine Quo vadis?” church to the Nymphaeum of “Villa dei Quintili”, you will explore an incessant series of different tombs, among them the grand “Tomba di Cecilia Metella”.

Route C - The Aqueducts area. Typology: historical and archaeological route in a characteristic landscape. Distance: 3 km (only on foot) Difficulty: easy Archeological – starting from San Policarpo church (Piazza Aruleio Celio Sabino), the tour will allow to appreciate the impressive remains of the famous aqueducts system of Rome. This green area, of 15 hectares, encloses 6 of the 11 aqueducts that served the ancient Rome. In detail, you will have the opportunity to appreciate the aqueducts Felice,

Acqua Marcia and Claudio. During the tour you will also see an ancient road inspector's house - Casale del Sellaretto - and Villa delle Vignacce, one of the largest roman villas of the area.
