Title: centre of gravity

Aim: to determine the position of the centre of gravity of a lamina

Apparatus: lamina, clam and stand, plumb line

Method:

Set up apparatus as illustrated in the diagram

Bore three holes in lamina near to the edge as far apart as possible

Label the holes a, b and c

Hang lamina from pivot hole A

Allow lamina to move freely

Hang plumb line on pivot

When lamina is settled mark the position of the plumb line where it cuts through the lamina

Label the position A`

Remove lamina

Join A to A`

Repeat procedure for holes B and C
