All intercalating degrees at Leeds are “in Relation to Medicine”. This is a stand alone degree, giving you the opportunity to develop an interest outside, although in many ways relevant to, medicine.

The programme follows as closely as possible the final year of the BSc Sport & Exercise Science programmes offered by the Faculty.

Duration 1 year.

What is Sports Science in Relation to Medicine?

The 4 Disciplines of Sport and Exercise ScienceBiomechanics

• the study of the mechanics (forces and motions) of human movement – performance, “technique” and injury.

Exercise Physiology• how the body functions during exercise and how it responds to long

term exercise training. – metabolism, respiration, body composition; muscle function.

Motor Control• the processes that underlie movement control, skill acquisition and

retention.

Sports Psychology• the thoughts, feelings and emotions of individuals and how these

influence human behaviour in sport and exercise.
