Her early quilts in the 1980s were Cathedral Windows. As Ann’s passion for quilting grew, she was attracted to pictorial quilts. She has been fortunate to take many workshops with Ruth McDowell. Ruth’s work and patient instruction offered Ann insights and ways to translate photos, buildings, animals, flowers and other forms into quilts. His family members will be joining us for the meeting, too, to witness the ceremo- ny. For our program, Julie Silber, a world- renowned quilt expert, will be our guest speak- er. After the program, there will be the great unveiling of both Challenge HAWAII and Chal- lenge FABRIC TELEPHONE/ENVELOPE QUILT. So it will be a full evening. Quilts to Share

Another amazing month at our Patriotic Outreach ta-bles! We accepted 80 items for our projects with a HUGE thank you to our members. Because the list of names and items would take up a whole page in the newsletter, please accept our gratitude and appreciation this month without all the details. You know who you are and know you giving a worthwhile donation….since all the smaller items are dispersed every month at the VA hospital in Martinez. They have a waiting list for the wheelchair bags so our donation of 15 was appreciated. We also gave 7 comfort pillows, 4 pillow cases, 4 tote bags, 6 neck scarves and 3 afghans. Also received 4 quilts, 2 sewn tops still needing machine quilting and two completed. In addition received 8 fabric donations and 2 of batting. One large donation of fabric was from the estate of beloved member Marion Hurkman, a member of Twisted Thimbles group. One quilt was awarded to a PTSD young man and 2 quilts were sent to Valley Springs to the Quilts of Honor headquarters. Speaking of Quilts of Honor, at our March meeting we will be personally awarding a quilt to a young man who has had injuries due to service in Afghanistan. His family will also be present. Bring your tissue! At our March meeting we will have a sign up sheet ask-ing for volunteers to sit at our booth at the quilt show along with Quilts to Share. Ellen Heathcote, Susan Swindell, Sharyn Owens

Four quilts from our guild given to Quilts of Honor

I will be honest with you, I have been soul searching in regards to our Quilts to Share program. How can we make it better? How can we carry those beautiful quilts and other items out of the meeting each month (they are heavy). How can we catalog the items coming in and going out more efficiently and how can we share all of this information with those who need to know, including the public who would be amazed at what we do and who we serve with handmade quilts and other items. It was a lot to think about. We have a great team. We have wonderful quilters who donate. I wondered if someone could do all of this better than me. Our team discussed this. I missed some meetings, my best friend had a stroke. While we all volunteer, life happens. It has been a wet, cold winter AND spring is almost here! I and the Quilts to Share Team are committed to serving our Guild and our community. We are committed to make this Philanthropic branch of our guild something terrific! With your help we can share goodwill and warmth to many. Thank you to those who support Quilts to Share with your time, talents and donations. We cannot do it without you! Join us! *Please remember to pin your NAME and QTS on each donated item, along with any 501c3 charity pref-erence for you have. We want to say thank you and honor your requests. See you at the Quilt Show… don’t forget to stop by our booth and say hi! Laura Mott, Team Leader, with Wanda Reyenga and Carol and Catherine Smith

Country Store

Yikes! Quilt show and our Country Store are al-most here! Want to help us make year this an-other fun and lucrative one for your store? Here's how you can join in the fun… ---Join the consignors and put some of your own stuff in the store. You get the proceeds, minus a percentage for the guild. Call Reba Siero if this sounds fun...there is still time :0) ---join the Country Store Helpers, and see how we get things set up for the sale. We also need Country Store Tear Down Helpers at the end of the show. OR... volunteer to be a fluffer, cashier, or back door police person during the show. You will get to have a really good look at all the great stuff we have, and whether you need to sit or stand, we have a job for you. Call Mary Stockler if you are interested. ---help by bringing Country-Store-ish props for Phyllis to use. A wagon, small shelves, a wheel barrow, old ladder, pedestal hat racks...these things add character to the display. Phyllis has wooden crates, but we can use boards or shelves to lay across them to add height to the display areas. Look around and see what you can let us borrow and give Phyllis Nishimori a call or email with what you can bring. We ask that you bring these props on set up day and take them home at close of show. Thanks for all of your great donations, for your time helping Mary and her crew working behind the scenes, for signing up with Reba to consign your goodies...and for the time we hope you'll share with us during the show. Onward!!!! Phyllis Nishimori, Mary Stockler, and Reba Siero
