Paryavaran Ambassador Dr APJ Abdul Kalam planted a sapling of Calophyllum inophyllum (Undi or Indian Laurel Tree) at Yashada where the launch event was held. Undi is a tree species indigenous to western India and used for medicinal purposes.
Dr Kalam told the students about a 106 year old Sita Ashok tree in his house in Delhi, which supports many different creatures and is an ecosystem in itself.
Dr Kalam also asked students to commit to planting and caring for trees.
Students of DAV School, Aundh have committed to look after the sapling planted here by Dr Kalam
