10.0 GENERAL BUSINESS

10.1 Gladstone South Club Affiliation with SQ

Gladstone South affiliation application: Short presentations were received from interested parties: Western Suburbs – Alex Staines. Gladstone experiencing a decrease in population – another club would dilute club numbers further. Result in reduction of quality of coaching due to fees going up in response to lower numbers. Spoke about a school closure and sporting clubs closing or amalgamating. CQSA mandate is to operate in best interest of clubs in the region. Concerned that population cannot sustain another club and the formation of a new club would be to the detriment of existing clubs. Western Suburbs are working to improve what they can offer members by having Triathlon QLD affiliation and can run mini tri’s etc. Also have a learn to swim class Gladstone South – David Cox. Have resources including coach with proven track record in the area. Have kids who won’t swim with another coach. Have the numbers to support the coach and the club. Gladstone South have linked in with a school that is supportive and wanting to progress the kids in the school. Will be using the Gladstone South School pool. The desire is to increase the number of kids in swimming in general. Michael Borg queried – What is security around access to water ie agreement to use the pool? Gladstone South responded that the Principal is supportive. They have the contract to run the pool after school. The school has their own learn to swim in

That CQSA recommend to Swimming QLD that the affiliation application from Gladstone South Club be accepted

school hours from 8 to 3. Club has outside of these hours plus school holidays. Gladstone South goal is for everyone to be able to stay successful and want swimming to grow in the area. Gladstone Gladiators – Shane Richardson. In general Club numbers are down. Believe Wests may struggle and that is a concern. Another club needs to be well set up and may struggle also. Would hate to see both fail. Don’t believe it will impact Gladstone club directly. General discussion revolving what is best for the kids in the region and the basis for the decision. Western suburbs acknowledge the decision but respectfully disagree with the decision.

10.2 Western Suburbs Change of Meet date

Western Suburbs change of meet date to 7th October. On line meet application has been received.

10.3 Junior Vice President Nomination for Jenny Smith to fill the position of Junior Vice President. Jenny has accepted the nomination.

10.4 Life Membership 1. Michael Borg has been trying to compile list of Life Members with the aim of having a get plaque made with all names. Michael will get a quote to have a board made up.

2. Tracy Spreadborough has declined her Life Membership as granted at the AGM in May 2017

On the 2nd March 2017, SQ advised CQSA that the Winton Pelican SC Inc have decided not to affiliate

this year. They have 130 members marked as “Active” in ClubLANE, but all have a financial status of

either “Non Paying” or “Unfinancial”. The members are included in the above figures because of

their “Active” status.
