CENTOS 5.5 INSTALLATION To perform a basic system load of CentOS 5.5 you will need either the CentOS 5.5 DVD or Disks 1, 3 and 4 of the 6 CD CentOS 5.3 set. You will also need the following system information:

• The Fully Qualified Hostname for your system • The IP address for your System • The Netmask for your System • The IP address for your Internet Gateway • The IP address for your first DNS Name Server • The IP address for your second DNS Name Server (if available)

To begin Load the CentOS DVD or Disk 1 CD in to the system’s drive and power up the system. Select Boot from CD if necessary. You should then see the following screen:

If you have not tested the DVD or CD since you downloaded the Images, you should select OK and follow the on screen instructions to test the integrity of the disk(s). After you have tested the Disk(s) or if you are sure the disks are OK, select Skip to proceed with the installation. You should then see the next screen.

Select Next to proceed

Select Your Language, then select Next to proceed.

Select you keyboard then select Next to proceed. Depending on the state of your system, you may see the following screen.

If So, select Yes to proceed.

To use the Standard partition layout (recommended) make sure that “Remove linux partitions on selected drives and create default layout” is selected then select Next to proceed. You will the see the following popup window:

Select Yes to proceed.

Select the Edit button under Network Devices and the next popup screen should appear.

Enter your network information and select OK to proceed. You will then return to the previous screen.

Enter your Hostname, Gateway, Primary DNS and Secondary DNS servers and select Next to proceed.

Select your Time Zone and then select Next to proceed.

Enter your root password twice and then select Next to proceed. The following screen will appear.

Unselect the “Desktop – Gnome” package and select “Customize now” and your screen should look like this.

Then select Next to continue.

Select “Base System” and the following screen should appear:

Unselect Dialup Networking Support leaving only the base system selected. You screen should now look like:

Then select Next to continue.

Select Next to format the disk and install the operation system. After the installation of the operating system is complete the following screen will appear.

Press any key to reboot the system. When the system reboots, following screen will appear.

Select Firewall Configuration and then select Run Tool and the following screen should appear.

Select Security Level: Disabled and SELinux: Disabled and the select OK and the system should finish booting and the login: prompt should appear. login to the system as root and then run the following commands: iptables –F iptables-save –c > /etc/sysconfig/iptables To update your system with the latest patches, please run: yum –y update And you have finished loading and updating CentOS 5.3
