Those Privileged

Foul Ball!
by Steve Higginbotham
His name is Steve Bartman. Name doesn't ring a bell? Well,
what if I gave you a couple hints? Game 6...Foul Ball...Cubs
Fan. Now you know who I'm talking about. Last week, this
26 year old's life took a dramatic change for the worse. Be-
cause he unintentionally interfered with the catching of a
foul ball, this young man has been forced to spend the last
week of his life in hiding. Many Cubs fans blame him for the
Cubs loss and several out of control fans literally want him
dead.
Personally, I feel terrible for the guy. I too, wanted the Cubs
to win. But this whole incident has reminded me of how
warped people's values sometimes are. This was a game,
just a game. Threaten a man's life because of a game?
Threaten a man's life and his family's life because of a foul
ball? Ridiculous!
But sports aren't the only arena in which one can witness
warped values and priorities. What about Christianity? Our
eternal destiny, whether it be in Heaven and Hell, hangs in
the balance. But instead of focusing our energy in that all
important matter, we give little attention to spiritual devel-
opment, and get wrapped up in relatively trivial matters
such as earning money, entertaining ourselves, the label on
our clothes, the style of car we drive, the size of our house,
and a host of other equally trivial matters.
Friends, if you're disgusted that a man's life is in jeopardy for
deflecting a foul ball, you should be. That's crazy! But make
sure that you take a good look at your life and make sure
you're equally disgusted by one's eternal life being in jeop-
ardy for matters that are equally as trivial as a foul ball.
Bible Trivia On what occasion did the prophet Nathan
make a mistake?
Answer to last week’s Bible trivia question: Acts 4:36 “Now Joseph, a Levite of
Cyprian birth, who was also called Barnabas by the apostles (which translated
means Son of Encouragement),”
