Seven lane-miles between Garden of the Gods Road and Fillmore Street were fully reconstructed to correct road grades, improve drainage and provide a suitable base for future maintenance of this vital north-south corridor on the city’s west side. Four lane-miles north of Fillmore Street that did not require full reconstruction were milled and received an asphalt overlay. The project connected sidewalk gaps and added three miles to the city's buffered bike lane network. Centennial Boulevard is the first of three major reconstruction projects made possible by current PPRTA funding.

Centennial Boulevard Reconstruction Project

Seven lane-miles of Centennial Boulevard were fully

reconstructed to correct road grades, improve drainage and provide suitable base material for paving and future

maintenance.

Over 750 plants and 38 trees were placed in three reconstructed medians to enhance the corridor.

The project connected sidewalk gaps and added three miles to the city's buffered bike lane network. A new concrete ramp was

added to improve access to Sinton Trail.

Centennial Boulevard Reconstruction Project

Project Fact Sheet This $11.8-million project for Centennial Boulevard between Fillmore Street and Garden of the Gods Road fully reconstructed seven lane-miles of the corridor to correct road grades, improve drainage and provide suitable base material for continued maintenance of this vital north-south corridor.

Although many of the project benefits are below ground and out of plain sight, pedestrians will notice curb ramp improvements and continuous sidewalk on both sides of the street from Garden of the Goads Road south to Fillmore Street. Residents between Chesham Circle and Windmill Avenue now have direct access to their homes. Safety and traffic operations have improved as a result of removing several center medians between Chesham Circle and Windmill Avenue that used to force residents to make a U-turn into or out of their neighborhoods.

By the numbers:

• Seven lane-miles of Centennial Boulevard were fully reconstructed down to the subgrade. • Four lane-miles were milled and received an asphalt overlay. • 18,500 tons of road base and 54,000 square yards of geogrid fabric were placed to stabilize the roadway. • Half-mile of 66-inch storm drain pipe was lined with a cured-in-place pipe prior to roadway reconstruction. • 79 curb ramps were removed and replaced to ensure ADA-compliance. • 1,300 feet of new sidewalk was added to close gaps on the west side of Centennial Boulevard. • New access ramp was constructed on the west side of Centennial Boulevard to connect to Sinton Trail. • 13,100 feet of curb and gutter were replaced. • New concrete cross pans were placed at all driveways and side-streets. • An underdrain system and 18 drainage inlets were installed to address historic ponding and saturated soil

conditions that led to deterioration of the roadway. • Three miles of buffered bike lanes were added to the city’s network. • New landscaped medians with 750 plants and 38 trees were installed to enhance the corridor.
