As you know, the Smur s are celebrating their 50th birthday in 2008. Its a milestone in thewonder ul story o the Smur s and a good rea-son to celebrate this hal -century o creativity and success in style.

It is with some pride that we there ore present this catalogue today, eaturing an exclusivegallery o 15 Celebrity Smur s,the product o the voluntary e orts o 15 unique European personalities.

For the Happy Smur day birthday project, the15 celebrities each created their own Smur ,with its own image, its own identity and itsown message. The result is 15 unique objects,the only ones o their kind in the world, all o which are personally signed and carry a certi -cate o authenticity.

With their creations, the 15 are simultaneously

celebrating the Smur s 50th birthday and supporting UNICEF.

On Thursday 23 October 2008, the Smur swill be exactly 50 years old. On that very day, these 15 Celebrity Smur s will be auc-tioned o to the highest bidder at Brus-sels Town Hall. All proceeds will go to UNI-

CEF, which will use them or educational programmes or children.

Because ultimately, thats what wereally want: to takethe dream that educationstill represents or many children all over theworld, and turn it into areality .

Zoals u weet vieren de Smur en in 2008 hun50ste verjaardag. Een mijlpaal in de wonder-baarlijke geschiedenis van de Smur en en eengoede reden om deze halve eeuw van creativ-iteit en succes op buitengewone wijze te vieren.

Niet zonder trots stellen we u daarom vandaagdeze catalogus voor met daarin een ex-clusieve galerij van 15 Beroemdheidssmur en,

het resultaat van de belangeloze inzet van15 unieke Europese personaliteiten.

Deze 15 beroemdheden creerden voor het verjaardagsproject Fijne Smur dag elk een ei-gen Smur met een eigen uitstraling, een eigenidentiteit en een eigen boodschap. Het werden15 unieke objecten, enig in de wereld, allemaal persoonlijk gesigneerd en met bewijs van au-thenticiteit.

Met hun creatie vieren ze niet alleen de 50ste

verjaardag van de Smur en, maar ondersteunen zij meteen ook UNICEF.

Op donderdag 23 oktober 2008 wordende Smur en precies 50 jaar. En precies op deze dag zullen deze 15 Beroemdheidssmur en in het stadhuis van Brussel toegewezen worden aande meest biedende. De integrale opbrengst gaat naar UNICEF, die deze zal besteden aan edu-catieve programmas voor kinderen.

Want daar gaat het ons uiteindelijk om:de droom die onderwijs voor vele kinderenover de hele wereld nog steeds is, omzetten inrealiteit .

Om hun 50ste verjaardag te vieren, willen de Smur en UNICEF steunen.

De Smur en komen, net als UNICEF, overal ter wereld op voor het respect van het recht opoverleving, ontwikkeling, bescherming en inspraak van kinderen.Hoewel er al heel wat vooruitgang geboekt is op het vlak van kinderrechten, zit het jammer genoeg in vele landen nog niet goed met die rechten. Jaarlijks sterven nog 9,2 miljoen kinderen voor hun vij de verjaardag, 93 miljoen kinderengaan niet naar school en 158 miljoen kinderen zijn verplicht te werken om te overleven.Omdat ieder kind het recht zou moeten hebben zich op de best mogelijke manier te ontwik-kelen, steunen de Smur en de onderwijsprogrammas van UNICEF.

Via kindvriendelijke scholen zorgt het Kinder onds ervoor dat kansarme kinderen naar school kunnen gaan en dat meisjes, die vaker dan jongens thuis moeten blijven om te werken,aangespoord worden om te studeren. Albert Uderzo, the drawer o the adventureso Asterix the Gaul, Tanguy and Laver-

dure and Oum-pah-pah was born on April 25th, 1927, as the son o Italian immigrants inFrance. In 1940, when he was only thirteen yearsold, Uderzo was employed by the Paris Publish-ing Society, where he learned the basics o thetrade. He was only 18 when he drew or a news- paper France Dimanche. In 1959 appeared the

rst adventures o Asterix the Gaul in Pilote,the magazine or teenagers that he created withhis riends Goscinny, Charlier and some others.Un ortunately, in 1977, died Ren Goscinny, thescenario writer o Asterix. Uderzo decided thento continue Astrix by himsel , which he does tothe present day.

women in war zones and developing coun-tries. She has based her design on a drawing by her daughter, who invented a Smur ette witha red cap. The result is Rester Femme, the only Smur ette in this gallery o Celebrity Smur s.

Grald Poussin

Grald Poussin knew Pierre Culli ord (Peyo) personally. The two met some 20 years ago

at the Comic Strip Festival at Sierre. With hisfower design, he pays homage to the distin-guished gentleman. Grald Poussin is an artis-tic all-rounder: lm-maker, producer, painter,drawer, urniture-maker, costume designer and jewellery-designer. He has also designed a num-ber o watches or Swatch.

bniste, crateur de costumes et crateur debijoux. Il a galement conu plusieurs montres pour Swatch.

received a Li etime Achievement Award or hisentire oeuvre during the World Soundtrack Awards at the Flanders-Ghent International FilmFestival in 2007.
