Celebration – Friday 3rd April 2020
Take a look at this week’s fantastic home learning! We are loving seeing everyone’s
fantastic efforts.
Willow Class
Acer Class
This week Willow class have been busy with a mix
of activities linked to autism awareness week and
our transport topic. They have written acrostic
poems, designed calm areas for our classroom
and tried Cosmic Kids Minecraft yoga. Lots of the
boys have been hunting for rainbows or creating
rainbows to be displayed in their homes and at
school. In addition to this they have been getting
creative making playdough cars and cardboard
towers. Josh has been doing some spring maths at
home whilst Dylan had a go at the capacity
challenge I set and was able to correctly order his
containers based on how much water they held.
Well done Josh and Dylan. On Wednesday four of
the class joined myself and Mrs Murray for a Zoom
call which was great fun and gave us the
opportunity to meet all of their pets. A fun week
has been had by all! Have a great Easter Holiday
Willow.
Another busy week for Acer class this week – we have been
busy finding out more about our topic ‘Apollo 11 - The Moon
Landings’, playing co-operative games with our families,
completing acts of kindness to put a smile on other people’s
faces and…….today (Thursday 2nd April), we took part in a
class Bake off.
Finley made a Rainbow of Hope and has been busy writing an
Autism poem. Reuben is calling his Grandparents to keep in
touch…he also made them flowers to send in the post….he
even made a Trifle whilst feeling poorly - what a busy week!!!
Harvey has been planting seeds, playing games, taking the
dog for long walks, singing karaoke and being pampered by
his Mummy – lucky boy
William has been busy decorating eggs and making yummy
cakes
Luca has been practising his spellings and having fun playing
Family game
Ben has been busy painting Space pictures and creating
Rainbows of Hope with his younger brother
Palm and Juniper Class
Squirrel Class
Everyone in Palm and Juniper class has been very busy
this week!
Joshua has been creating Planets with the
help of his Toucan craft box. Well done
Joshua, what lovely colours.
Tyler has been very busy completing all of his
maths and English and was very pleased to win 2
STAR award certificates. Great work Tyler!
Alex has created his very own marble run and
beautiful rainbow in support of our NHS. What
super creativity Alex.
Rory has recited the most wonderful poem about
a dragon and recorded a video to share with us.
We were all very impressed with Rory’s lovely
expression and fantastic recall. Well done Rory!
All of the adults that work with our students in Palm
and Juniper are very proud of how well they are
adapting to changes. While this is not an easy
time, they are working really hard and trying their
best.
Caiden has been busy bug hunting and
searching the house to complete the
alphabet challenge! Caiden has also
helped dad bake a yummy cake and has
been enjoying building various Lego sets.
Pheonyx has been a chef in the
kitchen again, this time making garlic
bread. He has also been practising his
letter formation
Leon has completed all of the learning
challenges. Take a look at his Lego car,
Easter chick and super writing!
Ashton has joined in with the rainbow
challenge and has been working
extremely hard completing other
challenges too. He also enjoyed Mrs
Tugwell sharing her book about
dinosaurs with him.
Jacob has been doing some great
phonics learning, reading and writing
some super Spring sentences.

Larch Class
Acorns Class
This week, Larch class have been
celebrating Autism awareness week.
Pupils have been creating beautiful
and bright puzzle pieces, the symbol of
Autism Awareness.
They have also been writing some
fantastic acrostic poems!
Thursday’s for Larch class are LOTC
days! They’ve been learning about
burns and scalds with a work sheet
from Mr Hurles and then making bug
hotels and bird houses! So lovely
boys…Well done.
Acorns challenge this week was to create
an Acrostic poems using the word
‘SPRING’ and to go into the garden or look
out of the window to find words that
describe the season of Spring.
Here you can see pictures of
Donovan’s poem, with extra words that
he likes, Connors Spring poem, and
Harry’s own version using the word
Fortnite.
This week Edward has worked hard on
his colour by number rainbow, and has
also been doing painting!
Connor has been doing some baking, and
Dylan had a Lion that came to tea!
Harry has been doing PE with Joe Wicks
and Rhylei made a beautiful rainbow!
Pine Class
Hazel Class
Pine class have been very busy this week. Mason
has been busy reading our class story and
producing lots of maths division work. Excellent
stuff, Mason! Tom B has also been busy with his
division work but also has decided that he wants to
learn to tell the time while he is off. Good effort,
Tom. Sophie has been out almost every day with
her Grannie and took a lovely picture of a swan
guarding its nest. She has also been doing some
fantastic colouring in. Jacob has produced a
rainbow picture with an important message.
Jacob also took part in the Lego challenge and
made a ride-on lawnmower, a vehicle that Jacob
can occasionally be seen riding in school. Jake has
completed a massive amount of work while he has
been at home and has also found time to do his
own ironing.
Jacob has written a thrilling original story on his
new laptop that he got for his birthday. Happy
birthday, Jacob, and well done! Ben has
recapped our work on multiplication using arrays
and repeated addition. He has also written an
exciting news story about an earthquake. Excellent
work, Ben!
Another FANTASTIC week from Hazel class.
They have been very busy. Some children
have been baking and cooking at home
creating delicious dishes.
In Maths they have been focusing on their
division using whatever they could find at
home. It was lovely seeing Owen use his
games to start his Maths. Samuel has also
been busy doing his odd and even
numbers.
In English we have been looking at Autism
awareness week, creating acrostic poems.
The children of Hazel class have also been
helping out at home by hovering and
helping with a drill outside!
LOTC Pathway
Beech South Class
In LOTC this week we have been working on getting our
other platforms up and running, developing content to
upload to them.
On Wednesday Mr Bell had a live stream lesson with Ben
and Tyler, the lesson was on map symbols which they’ve
been learning as part of their DofE. They both engaged in
it really well so we are going to do another one this week.
Ben’s mum said “the chat meant everything to Ben
today…. The structure we are trying to have is not
stopping him wanting to be at school, todays contact
with you guys turned it around and he is settled again. We
didn’t realise how much that was needed.”
LOtC are also setting up an Easter sunflower project for
KS4 pupils to try at home, hopefully we get some good
results!
As part of Tyler’s DofE volunteering section he has filled 2
very LARGE bags of rubbish from around school site.

James has been working out with the help of Mr Joe Wicks
and learning new skills with his dad. Well done James
keep working hard!
Jonnie has been making some delicious deserts that are
making Mr Hurles and Mrs Berrett very envious! Jonnie is
writing a cookery book as part of his Duke of Edinburgh
Award and life skills. Scrumptious work Jonnie keep it up
It has been a busy week in Beech class.
There has been lots of cooking and arts
and crafts. We have been continuing to
work on our Space topic with some
reading and artwork.
Finn has been reading and space
modelling. He has also been trying hard
with some extra sience and a 5 senses
hunt.
Molly has done even more arts and crafts –
candle making, modelling and a
wonderful rainbow to make us all smile.
She has also been cooking bread and
cookies! An extra special well done to
Molly for passing her reading level 2
certificate!
Purple mash and PE have been Beech
classes favourite lessons!
Beech have also been learning about
Autism Awareness week.
Maple Class
Hazel South
It’s been a busy week in maple class!
James had a great go at the addition and
subtraction Spring board game!
Joshua made a bird house with
somewhere to store the worms!
Oliver created a rainbow for the
competition at Springfields!
It was Ethan’s birthday and he got this
fantastic new bike! Happy Birthday Ethan!
Chloe has written a great newspaper
report!
Natalis has been finding different types of
clocks in the house – digital and analogue!
Logan has been making some yummy
biscuits!
Alfie has been continuing with his
computer game!
Lots of children in Hazel Class have
been working really hard this week with
their home learning. Many of the
class have continued working on their
space projects, Kaylen produced great
work linked to the phases of the moon
and found a great YouTube clip to use,
Dylan’s detailed PowerPoint which
linked to the different planets was very
interesting and Forrester did some
fantastic writing about Juniper. There
has been lots of online maths learning
taking place and creative activities
such as drawing and model making,
Archie’s creations were really
impressive. Other highlights include
Kian’s amazing rainbow, gardening,
activities linked to the Lego Challenge
and lots of reading.
Catering Pathway
Apple Class
This week, Adam challenged himself to
make cookies, but made a new creation –
Cookie Cupcakes! Yum!
Raife has been hard at work researching
foreign cuisine.
Owen has also been researching, and
wrote this fantastic piece about ‘Food
from Around the World’! He has also been
showing his culinary prowess by making
tandoori chicken kebabs with cumin rice
and peas. Well done Owen!
In Apple Class this week Will enjoyed
some cooking, playing mastermind,
and doing some mental maths
working out how long people lived at
the local cemetery.
Olivia went on a sunny walk, did some
painting around the house and made a
fantastic notice board all about St John’s
Ambulance! Great job Olivia!
Kyle has been hard at work with one of
our former pupils Kayleigh. He also kept
active by spending some time on the
trampoline
Cedar Class
This week Cedar have had lots
of things to celebrate. Jonnie
has been making a cook book,
and so far has added 1 sweet
treat per day! Luckily, he is also
completing the fitness
challenge! Jonnie is ahead of
Mr Cameron in the number of
press ups he can do, but Mr
Cameron is slowly catching him
up!
Both Tobi and Aaron have also
submitted Rainbows of hope. In
true retro style, Aarons is in the
form of a rainbow Gameboy!
The Therapy Blog
This week we have been focusing on being positive and celebrating success!
Cindy, our therapy assistant has been setting the students a ‘Positivity Challenge’! Find
something positive every day to celebrate and share it with someone! Sometimes finding
something positive can be hard! But I am sure we can all find something no matter how
small! One student was super happy because his trampoline is now fixed!
Liz, our Occupational Therapist has been working in school this week and has found lots of
things to be positive about!
Students and staff made a Rainbow of Hope poster in support of the NHS. Students created
the idea and helped to display it outside the school. Students have been sending photos of
their own rainbows to teachers and we have also been sharing them outside school!
Rebecca, our Speech and Language Therapist, is feeling positive about all the hard work
students in Squirrels and Acorns have been doing to complete their rhyming word and
categories challenges! Well done everyone!
Sarah, our school counsellor, has shared how positive she is feeling that students are sharing
their anxieties about the changes and are able to work through them with her using
technology!
