A year later he added to the product line- up by buying war surplus heavy trucks in the US, importing them to Canada, and selling them in the local market. Jump 7 years forward to 1957 when Lloyd applied for and received the Kenworth Truck franchise for Penticton. Now, like any good salesperson, his territory was open. THE OFFICIAL INLAND NEWSLETTER FALL 2019

70 years ago, in 1949, Inland’s first employee, my grandfather, Lloyd Parker, founded Parker Industrial Equipment Co Ltd. He was a natural salesperson and always had an eye on market opportunities. Thus began our origins: selling agricultural equipment in Penticton BC. A year later he added to the product line-up by buying war surplus heavy

trucks in the US, importing them to Canada, and selling them in the local market.

Jump 7 years forward to 1957 when Lloyd applied for and received the Kenworth Truck franchise for Penticton. Now, like any good salesperson, his territory was open. He was anywhere anyone needed a truck.

Prince George was a pretty up-and-coming area so, like a true entrepreneur, he went all in with a brand-new facility in 1961. 3 years later he followed this up with a new building in Kamloops. In 1966, he opened a trucks sales office in Vancouver and moved the corporate office to the big city. This was also around the time both Inland finance and Inland leasing were created.

Over the next 7 years, Inland would buy or open 7 more Inland locations in BC. In 1973, Lloyd and team saw an opportunity in the manufacturing sector, and subsequently purchased Skagit

Manufacturing. Skagit manufactured our beloved Bull Moose crane that some of you still have in operation today. Along with Bull Moose, they also manufactured Parpac log trailers and assembled Hino trucks imported from Japan. This business unit would later become known as Parker Pacific.

Over the next 10 years or so, the focus was on growing the business and replacing, renovating or adding to our existing facilities. Fort St. John and Vernon were opened, giving Inland a total location count of 14 in British Columbia.

In the early 80’s, two very important events occurred in our company’s history. Celebrating Years!

[continued from cover page] In 2002, we added the Tigercat forestry equipment line to our arsenal. Now for those of you that may not be familiar with this brand or its reputation in the marketplace, think Kenworth . . . on steroids.

2010 doesn’t seem that long ago, and really I suppose 9 years in a timeline of 70 isn’t that long. However, in those years, Inland has reinvested almost $100 million dollars into facilities and future Inland sites. In this 9 year period, Inland has opened a total of 9 new locations, with 4 full service dealerships and 5 parts locations. A new parts only location in El Centro, later this year, will be Inland’s 36th location.

Now, let’s take a moment and step back a year to 2018. At the beginning of 2018, we had 28 locations in Western Canada and the Southwestern U.S. We were Paccar’s 2nd largest Kenworth dealer, and the only Paccar dealer to operate on both sides of the border.

But, like Lou Holtz says, “In this world, you’re either growing or you’re dying. So get in motion and grow." The reality of our world today is such that, if the large dealer group sits still, it could become the medium or small dealer of tomorrow. That is a space where it's harder to compete, so let’s keep in motion!

This past year we were fortunate to have two new opportunities to grow the Inland family.

In October 2018, we added to our network a well-established, family owned, single location truck parts and service operation based in Castlegar, BC. This was an important addition for us, as Inland now fully services the requirements of our customer base in

the southwest area of British Columbia.

Also in late 2018, it was with great excitement that Custom Truck Sales joined the Inland family. Family owned, CTS operated 6 Kenworth locations across Saskatchewan and Manitoba. They also distribute Doepker and Globe trailers. This company has operated for over 53 years, and is very well respected both in their market, and among fellow Kenworth dealers. Their values and approach to customers and employees are at the highest standards, thus making them a natural fit for the Inland family.

So to recap: since 2010 (in under 10 years) Inland has grown by 16 (soon to be 17) locations. To me that speaks to commitment and strength from both ownership and from you. I hope you are as proud to be a part of this company as I am.

Flashing back to Lloyd, I remember him saying that his vision was to have a network of dealerships whereby the customer never had to drive more than 100 miles to reach us. That strategy holds pretty true today. And while we may not be within that distance of all our customers, with 36 locations and growing, we are certainly making our best efforts to be where the customer base is and to be available to them when they need us.

70 years is an extraordinary milestone in business, and is something that very few businesses today can attest to. I think we can all agree that it really speaks to the quality of the people we have here at Inland. Inland employees are the backbone of this company. You represent the face of Inland – who we are, what we stand for – and it is because of you we have found the success we have experienced over the past 70 years. Thank you!

The first Inland location, previously called Parker Industrial Equipment, in Penticton, Burnaby, B.C.

THE EVOLUTION OF THE INLAND LOGOThroughout our 70 years in business, the Inland logo has evolved and simplified to better represent our business. For a long time, we were referred to as Inland Kenworth. Although Kenworth trucks make up a significant chunk of our sales, the name Inland Kenworth excludes the other brands we sell in B.C. and the Yukon: Tigercat, Case and Link-Belt.

To include our Canadian equipment line, the company branched into two divisions: Inland Kenworth for the truck side, and Parker Pacific, derived from the founding name Parker Industrial Equipment, for the equipment side. Both were placed under the umbrella of The Inland Group.

However, we provide parts and service for all makes and models of trucks and equipment. We wanted a name that would be universally accessible to all customers across all brands. As well, today, single words become the most powerful brands. Starbucks, McDonalds, Facebook easily imprint in our minds because they have a simple, recognizable name and logo. So, in 2014 The Inland Group became simplified to Inland.

A logo symbolizes a brand and evokes an emotional response. When customers see the Inland logo, they know the level of quality service and professionalism they can expect. The past 70 years have built the Inland brand we know today, and we continue to build the Inland brand every time another customer leaves happy.

THEINLANDGROUP

The Inland “i” dates back to the earliest years of the company and is the most recognized aspect of our brand. Throughout the evolution of the logo, the “i” has passed on through every version, with only slight changes. The "i" is a registered trademark, which will preserve the integrity of the logo for years to come.

Each of the 8 slices represents a different aspect of Inland’s business, together completing the full-service, one-stop shop vision. Today, these slices represent all of our business divisions: truck, forestry, construction, new & used wholesale, parts, service, leasing, and financing.

The name "Inland" comes from the location of the first store in Penticton, which is in the interior of British Columbia. At the time, there were other Kenworth dealerships operating in B.C. so, to distinguish ourselves from these coastal dealerships, we became referred to as the interior or inland Kenworth dealership. Hence the birth of the name Inland. Today, although we have many coastal locations, the name Inland speaks to our origins.

NEW FACILITIES!We're opening up a new parts only, Inland TPR store in El Centro, California! Located north of the Mexican city, Mexicali, El Centro bridges the gap between our West Coast California and central

Arizona locations.

Open for business December 2nd, Adam Vail, El Cajon Parts Manager, will be managing the store along with our 2 other

San Diego area stores. This will be Inland's 3rd U.S. Inland TRP store and 6th company-wide,

bringing the total number of all Inland stores to 36.

Inland Fort St. John is getting a makeover! To meet growing customer demand, they will be getting a new, larger facility modeled after Prince George's layout & design. The new 85,000 sqft facility will be built on the existing land the current

facility sits on. It will house 21 truck bays, 4 equipment bays, and a large parts warehouse.

Pictured here is the building undergoing construction. We are forecasting an early 2020 move in date! Until then, it's business as usual in the existing facility.

CARS FOR A CAUSE

INLAND-GROUP.COM

B.C. LOGGING RALLY

Greg Negus and Rick Angeli from Kamloops partook in the convoy, driving this W900L. What a great way to

show support!

Inland Prince George was the starting point where drivers gathered at 2am in preparation

for their long drive. Jeff McNeal handed out Tim Horton's gift cards so they could grab

breakfast on the road.

Some loggers were driving since 2am as they made their way down from Prince George, met with others in Merritt at 9am, and

arrived in downtown Vancouver at 3pm.

Inland showed support to loggers during the rally as many were customers who have personally been affected. It was amazing

to see an entire industry, stretched across the province, stick together to have their voices heard.

Last summer Inland sponsored cars in the Okanagan Dream Rally. The Dream Rally is an event where supercars are driven from Kelowna to Penticton with a very special co-pilot in each car. The co-pilots are children with special needs, or who are having health issues. Inland’s donation of $10,000 will benefit Ronald McDonald House and the Pacific Autism Family Network.

Corey Timms, Director of Construction Equipment, represented Inland at the rally by driving one of the two Inland branded supercars. Corey was privileged to be matched up and spend the day with co-pilot, Sebastien. Sebastien is a 7-year old boy who was born with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder. Daily tasks that we take for granted can be monumental for children like Sebastien, and this was a big day for him. His mom told us the next day that “he had the absolute best time” and he hadn’t removed the hat Corey gave him since parting the rally.

Big thank you to Corey for representing Inland, getting our name out there in the community, and putting a smile on a kid’s face. As employees of Inland, I think we can all feel good knowing we have helped make a difference for some families who really need the help.

Last September, over 200 logging trucks from all over B.C. made their way down to Vancouver to meet with B.C.'s Premier. The purpose of the convoy was to rally for change in light of mill

closures and curtailments which have resulted in job losses in the forestry industry.
