WORKSITE WELLNESS SPECIALIST

Employee Wellness’ Barbara Cassano raised the bar in wellness in 2019 and became a certified Worksite Wellness Specialist. This certification allows her to assist the department in iden-tifying the components of a comprehensive worksite wellness program and ensure it is a sound and sustainable program plan based on our population’s health model.

RUNNERS CLUB

Despite not being asked to create or manage a company club, Kelly Rolo rose to the challenge and formalized the O&R Runners Club. Kelly’s initiative has helped to create a healthier workforce and, through local races and events, allowed for numerous part-nerships to form between O&R and the community.

“Always Ready” Attitude

“What does operational excellence mean to you?”

That’s what Joe Paris, a renowned guest speaker with over 30 years of experience in international business and operations asked well over 100 Gas Operations employees who gathered in the Spring Valley auditorium in late January.

The purpose of the day was twofold: (1), to celebrate the past year’s achievements and (2), to ensure that success in opera-tional excellence continues by adopting an “Always Ready” attitude. Gas Operations is expected to receive 20 basis points of positive revenue adjustment for surpassing NYS PSC gas safety metrics in emergency response time, leak backlog, damage pre-vention and leak prone pipe replacement.

“We know gas. We know how to investigate a leak. We know how to repair a leak. What we do need to get better at is understand-ing how to always be ready on our jobs. That’s what we’re here for,” said Section Manager - Gas ConstructionMike Casale.

That’s where Joe Paris comes in. Joe, whose mission is to help companies become high-performance organizations, has travelled the world reinforcing that nothing is routine and sharing the tools required to achieve optimal success. In his words, “Operational excellence is a state of readiness attained as the efforts throughout the enterprise reach a state of alignment for pursuing its strategies.”

Jackie Winter, Gas Operations’ Sr. Planning Analyst and co-coordinator of the event along with Mike, summed up the impact the day had for Gas employees. “We heard from many of the employees who attend-ed, they certainly had a sense of pride and accomplishment for their hard work and they enjoyed the keynote speaker.”
