Barbara Schubert is feeling less restricted now that golf courses are open. She sends her thanks to so many Beaumont classmates and friends who have been praying for her son, who underwent a five hour cancer surgery recently at the Cleveland Clinic. Kathy is looking forward to seeing everyone at the reunion! From Barbara Arnold: “Hi all, hope you are well and taking good care during these strange Covid days. I have been staying home with my dog, Dickens, watching movies, doing crosswords, rearranging furniture, working in the yard and wishing this virus would just go away! County Board of MR/DD after 28 years and again after 9 years of teaching Masters of Ed courses at Notre Dame College. I am officially retired now. I currently reside part-time in Cleveland, and part-time in a vacation resort town called Harbor Springs in northern MI (tip of the little finger on the “Mitt”). I enjoy sailing, boating and swimming on Little Traverse Bay and hosting friends and Arnold family reunions in Harbor Springs too. My 2 children who went to camp in Harbor Springs in their youth were drawn to vacation towns after college. My daughter, 37yo, lives in Kennebunkport, ME and my son, 35yo, lives in Breckenridge, CO. Always nice to visit them in their towns. I have been with my wonderful guy (a St. Ignatius and JCU grad, and Vietnam vet) for 20 years of “unwedded” bliss. I have fond memories of Beaumont, hi-jinks and all, and the gals in our class. We were an eclectic bunch as I recall which made us interesting. I hope the Covid situation becomes such, that this October reunion can occur as planned. I’m looking forward to it. Name tags will be a must! Best to all!

Greetings Sunshine Class! This past December, several of our classmates gathered for a holiday dinner at Geraci's in Pepper Pike. Joining in the fun were Maryann Anderson Falco, Kim Binder Carroll, Lynn Zeleznik Knast, Karen Bird Mellon, Mary Sciotto Novotny,
Judi Szabo, Mary Beth Walton Guzzo, Tess Dreka Rosch, Mary Beth Jamieson DiCorpo, Mary Roncagli Johnson, Barb Monroe and Karen Bartko Reming. Thank you Karen for putting this event together! Stay tuned for details about the next get-together. 2020 came in with a bang and brought its share of challenges. While many of us had travel plans postponed or canceled, there is still some happy news to report. Pat Connelly and her husband Phil welcomed their thirteenth grandchild. This little one tips the scale in favor of the girls! Brenda Woodworth O'Toole and husband Don greeted their first grandchild in March. Welcome baby Liam! Kathy Simoson O'Brien proudly reported that her youngest son received his MBA from Carnegie Mellon. Well done Michael! Lynn Knast said things are quiet in Barnegat, New Jersey, and she looks forward to summer and hopefully sharing time with family and friends. Mary Johnson reported that she had nothing to report since she hasn't been anywhere in months! However, recently she's been enjoying a good motorcycle ride as places begin to reopen. Kim Carroll has been working in her yard creating beautiful gardens and breathtaking flowers. She also designs lovely interior spaces and tablescapes. Mary Beth Guzzo, Brenda O'Toole and Lynn Traxler Gilligan said the highlight of the last few months is leaving the house to get a color and haircut. My appointment is tomorrow and I can't wait! Karen Reming admits to slipping out while in lockdown and frolicking across NE Ohio (claiming to maintain social distancing). Mary Beth and Lynn are keeping an eye on her! Mary Beth Guzzo was not able to celebrate her mom's birthday with her due to the lockdown. Mrs. Walton, who resides at Jennings Hall, turned 96 in March. Mary Beth and her mom had their first in-person visit last week. MB states her spirits are great and she enjoys FaceTime. God bless! Stay safe, stay healthy, and please continue to pray for our classmates and their families.

Jeanine Maddox writes “I am the proud momma of a college graduate! My daughter, virtual graduation and all, Adrianna Wilkes, graduated from Columbia College Chicago during a time definitely more different than when we graduated from our respective institutions. Like everyone else, my own company lost some client work during the stay in place, but fortunately, it has bounced back with opportunities I couldn’t image. My hope is others’ employers and businesses rebound as we safely start moving back in society.” Thanks Jeanine!.

before Panama locked down... and we have officially been on lockdown ever since, i.e. not much news to report on my end! We have a lovely view from our new home, which is about all we’ve seen of Panama so far, and after 3 months of living out of suitcases, we finally got our stuff (furniture, books, TV, coffeemaker), so life is a bit more comfort- able now. My husband, Jim, as part of his job here, is leading Roche Diagnostics’ COVID-19 response in Latin America, so that’s cool and relevant, and I’ve spent the last few months as virtual-school taskmaster for Éamonn (12) and Maeve (10) while trying to maintain my enthusiasm for learning Spanish and going to the supermarket once a week. Since we’re not even allowed out to take a walk, Maeve and I virtually climbed Mt Kilimanjaro during the month of May in the hot, dark stairwell of our apartment building: 42 floors down, 42 floors back up. She hated it, but I’m now en route to Everest (solo). I’m buoyed every day by news of friends and family around the world, so I’m hoping you’re all healthy and happy and ready to share some tales of your own! Jaqueline Virant Skotzke’s oldest, Luke, graduated from 8th grade at St. Anselm’s and is headed to NDCL, and her daughter Sadie is going into 7th grade. Jackie is a first grade teacher and the last semester of the year—when the schools because of COVID—threw her a curve ball, but it went really well! She lives in Chardon, with her kids and husband, who is also a teacher! Miriam Metlock Sterling is a nurse at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital in Tallahassee, Florida. From March through May, she was on the pandemic frontline, providing testing to about 100 patients a day, in both the hospital and in drive-through testing sites. Miriam also got married September 14th, 2019 at Havana Springs resort in Tallahassee Florida to Navy retired AT1 Edward Sterling. Congrats, Miriam! Maggie Strunk Toohig is living in Kansas City, MO with her three girls, Molly (14), Allie (12) and Katie (9). They are doing well through corona, although everyone is ready to see friends and get back to normal. They would love to be able to make a trip “home” soon! After many years of studying and living
in Chicago and Philippines, Abigail Cay-Palinkas has finally settled down in Hudson, Ohio with her husband of 7 years, Michael Palinkas, and our 5 year-old son, Brian. Since 2009, I have been working as a Family Medicine physician with a private medical group: Pioneer Physicians Network where we have multiple office locations throughout summit and portage counties. I keep in touch with my fellow neighbor Amy Leskovec Rayer where we celebrate our Mother’s Day every 3 to 4 months while exploring wonderful brunch food restaurants. Maggie Sidley Prater officially retired from the Army as a LTC September 2019. Her fam- ily moved from Florida back to the Cleveland area last summer, and her kids just started Gesu last fall. Other than that, she’s laying low and surviving my boys with a summer of no public pools. Hope all is well with everyone! Kara King has been living in Charlotte, NC since she graduated from Spelman College in Atlanta, GA in 1996. Living there was just supposed to be a trial run, but she never left! She earned her PhD in Biology from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in 2007, and works for Atrium Health as the Director of Grants & Contracts and Systems Support in Sponsored Programs Administration. Her team helps to oversee pre and post-award non-financial adminis- tration of funding for research and other sponsored activities. Last summer, she was honored as one of Pride Magazine’s Best of the Best for this role in the Charlotte community. She had two huskies, littermates, who both lived to be about 13. These days, she volunteers, draws, reads, and travels when she can and spends time with friends. Kara still comes to Cleveland a fair amount as it will always be home, and still loves and cheers for every Cleveland sports team before any other! She sends love to all of her fellow Beaumonsters and the Class of ‘92! Monique Graves-Banks writes: “Hey everyone! Since climbing over that Beaumont wall, I attended the University of North Carolina Central University. I returned home to Cleveland briefly, soon leaving for Florida where I lived for about 23 years before relocating to Tennessee. I have a 25
year-old son, who is a graduate of FIU and a beautiful wife whom I met and fell in love with in Florida and married legally in 2015. Before leaving Florida, I worked in the biotechnology field for Regenerative Biologics in Gainesville (Go Gators!) & UM Tissue Bank (Vivex Biologics) in Miami. Due to MS, I no longer work, as I was forced into early retirement by this disease. I enjoy traveling, spending time with family, getting on my wife's nerves and reading which is my passion. Thanks for the update, Monique! I hope you all are safe and healthy, and look forward to seeing you on a Zoom call soon! Please keep your updates coming! [email protected] Happy Summer!
