THE STAR SPANGLED BANNER LYRICSBy Francis Scott Key 1814

Oh, say can you see by the dawn’s early lightWhat so proudly we hailed at the twilight’s last gleaming?Whose broad stripes and bright stars thru the perilous fight,O’er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming? And the rocket’s red glare, the bombs bursting in air,Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there.Oh, say does that star-spangled banner yet waveO’er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

On the shore, dimly seen through the mists of the deep,Where the foe’s haughty host in dread silence reposes,What is that which the breeze, o’er the towering steep,As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses? Now it catches the gleam of the morning’s first beam,In full glory reflected now shines in the stream:‘Tis the star-spangled banner! Oh long may it waveO’er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

2016 ACHCA Honorees Discover the Rewards of Professional Advancement

The American College of Health Care Administrators is the only professional association dedicated to long-term and continuing care administrators. Because ACHCA’s mission is to promote and recognize leadership excellence within the profession, we offer two tracks for advancement that afford you the opportunity to develop professionally – and be recognized for your achievements.

Professional Certification Certified Nursing Home Administrators (CNHA) Certified Assisted Living Administrators (CALA) This ACHCA program certifies professionals who have demonstrated the knowledge, skills, values and leadership experience consistent with the high standards of management necessary to provide quality services to residents, families, and communities. In addition, the program provides visible and tangible evidence of public accountability for the efficient delivery of quality health care. In a 2012 survey conducted by Advance magazine, CNHA qualified administrators made $15,528 more than the typical LTC administrator. Reasons to Pursue Professional Certification: National recognition Eligibility for State licensure in several states Commitment to the public Enhancement of the profession Personal satisfaction and sense of achievement Employer recognition ACHCA recognition

Advancement to Fellow

The designation of Fellow signifies the highest level of achievement within ACHCA. Obtaining this level of achievement in your profession is your opportunity to tout your hard work in long term care and to demonstrate your continued commitment to staff, residents, and community. Fellowship is a mark of distinction that others recognize and respect. Once you have advanced to Fellow status, it is a designation that you keep for life as long as you maintain your ACHCA membership. In a 2012 survey conducted by Advance magazine, FACHCA qualified administrators made $35,842 more than the typical LTC administrator. ACHCA Fellowship is a gift you give yourself that reflects your commitment to your chosen career. Explore the advancement opportunities available to you through The American College of Health Care Administrators, visit www.achca.org or call (202) 536-5120.

Session DescriptionsSession DescriptionsSUNDAY, APRIL 17, 2016

9:00 AM – 10:00 AM

100. Keynote Presentation: Leading In Times of Adversity-Keynote PresentationKevin Reilly | HR, LD, AL*, NS | Liberty Ballroom

Kevin Reilly speaks from the heart and uses his own life as a lesson on how all of us can prevail from bad luck, adversity and pain to find the very best in ourselves. His ability to motivate any kind of group - from school kids to employees of Fortune 500 companies - is enhanced by his gift of tackling an audience and not letting go.

Kevin Reilly may have lost his arm to cancer, but the former Philadelphia Eagles football player gained something in return: a unique understanding of what it takes to fight back and win. Kevin’s struggle began in 1976 when a tragic chain of events ended his NFL football career – and almost ended his life. Kevin’s story isn’t merely about survival; it is a tale about faith, resiliency of the human spirit, and rising from the ashes. His story is about finding that your greatest adversary is yourself, and small victories happen when no fans are cheering you on…only the faintest whisper from above telling you that sometimes you have to fall to fly.

10:15 AM – 11:45 AM

201. Managing Therapy Service Delivery in the Evolving WorldKris Mastrangelo & Martha Schram | LD | Room 411-412As policy, regulatory, and quality initiatives drive changes across the healthcare continuum, skilled nursing and assisted living facilities must navigate the evolving culture and demographics in the post-acute care market place. As a result, the impact to provider decision making, patient care, and operational excellence is being felt at all levels in our industry. Rehabilitation is key to patient-centered care in the SNF and ALF environment. Alternative payment models and shifts in the regulatory landscape have a powerful effect on how rehabilitation services and care are delivered. Providers are being challenged with developing new strategies to help win and compete in this ever-changing environment.

Principles of Strategic Planning-Inspiration from “The Art of War”Cecilia Sepp, CAE | LD, AL* | Room 411-412Organizations use the strategic planning process to assess their environment, to evaluate their resources, and to define issues affecting their business model. Ultimately, long-term goals are established that will support the mission of the organization. The correct application of strategy and tactics in support of the mission is vital to the ongoing success of the organization – bringing all aspects of your organization into the development and implementation of the plan builds a stronger organization by more efficiently using resources and delivering what your target audiences want and need. The master of strategy is Sun-Tzu, author of “The Art of War.” While developed as a manual on military strategy, this ancient and modern text continues to inspire business and political strategy today. 4:30 PM – 5:30 PM

601. Staffing by Acuity-How Does Your Facility Compare?Patricia Boyer | RC, FN, LD | Room 411-412More changes are occurring in the industry and it has become even more important to understand how acuity of care affects staffing in facilities. This workshop will dive into the staffing calculations being utilized to evaluate the five star staffing component, discuss how surveyors may be utilizing these numbers to evaluate your compliance with staffing requirements, and evaluate how you can meet these challenges. In addition, we will focus on the MDS Focused Surveys which expanded nationwide in 2015 and will now add a staffing component.
