“Leadership Marshfield” Group Extends Donation Deadline There is still time to help a “Leadership Marshfield” group that is partnering with Soup or Socks to support families needing assistance in dressing their children as they begin a new school year. The group’s project is entitled “Best First Day”. An initial clothing drive in March went very well and the community has been very generous, but several partnering agencies have agreed to keep donation boxes for clothing items at their locations until June 15. Qualifying families will be registering for the August 8th event by June 1st, so this extended drive may help with additional needs that were not initially anticipated. Collections for new clothing will continue through June 15th at MACCI, SOS, and United Way. Research shows us that many children are affected in painfully silent ways, such as inadequate clothing, that diminish their quality of life. The first day of school is of particular importance, as children embark on meeting new friends, embrace exciting learning opportunities, and grow as individuals. Beginning this day with new shoes and proper clothing are basics that give children confidence, ultimately aiding in their education and future. Unfortunately, some families struggle to provide this due to financial hardships. As a United Way Partner, Soup or Socks (SOS) outfits children for the upcoming school year. In August, families go to SOS with their children to pick out clothing. Clothes, shoes, and winter gear are provided to children of families who qualify for the assistance, but resources are limited. Clothing collections will be for the following most needed items for boys and girls grades K–12: - New Tennis /Athletic Shoes - New Leggings or Athletic Pants - New Hoodies - New Socks Donated Funds (funds will be used to supplement needs; e.g., jeans, tees, boots, etc.)

The group’s vision is to enrich the lives of our future by having every kid dressed with confidence. Please consider donating to Best First Day through June 15, culminating with the Best First Day clothing event August 8, 2018 at Soup or Socks. Interested in volunteering? Help is needed at SOS for set-up days of Aug. 6th and 7th, the day of the event Aug. 8th, and clean-up day Aug. 9th. Contact Cheryl at SOS: [email protected] Best First Day team members include Chase Gomez from PreventionGenetics, Kathy Leick of Marshfield Utilities, Jen Morrow from Pioneer Bank, Mike Warren of WDLB, and Tammie Willfahrt from Figi’s, Companies, Inc.

Answer:

Yes. However, to receive favorable tax treatment, the exchange must satisfy the requirements of a Section 1035 exchange. According to Section 1035 of the Internal Revenue Code, you can exchange one annuity for another without the immediate recognition of any gain or loss, as long as the following requirements are met:

• The annuity cannot be cashed in and the proceeds then used to purchase a new annuity contract. Rather, the value of the old annuity must be transferred to the new annuity, usually by assigning rights to the old annuity to the company issuing the new annuity.

• The exchange must involve like-kind property (i.e., property that is similar in nature or class and of equal value). If the annuitant receives cash or a payment in kind of cash or property, then that part of the exchange involves property that is not like-kind and may be taxable.

• Under the new contract, the owner, along with the annuitant, must be the same as under the old contract. Both contracts must also be payable to the same person(s) (the beneficiary).

The Inspire Central Wisconsin initiative brings together education and industry to help students and job seekers achieve their goals and address communities’ workforce development needs. Inspire Central Wisconsin provides powerful tools for students and job seekers and adult career searchers, community businesses, educators, and local system administrators.

In an initiative aimed at addressing Wisconsin’s workforce development needs, all nine of the state’s regional economic development organizations have teamed up to develop a statewide platform that directly connects local employers to students. In the Centergy region, that includes the Marshfield area in Wood County, MACCI is leading the effort.

Centergy and MACCI, with support from the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC) and the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DP), will expand the use of a web-based platform called Inspire that virtually connects area businesses to their future talent pool through online profiles, virtual career coaches, and career based learning activities for high school students and educators.

What should I know about Inspire? Inspire is a cloud-based platform that enables collaboration among all community partners in preparing youth to

transition from school success. Inspire integrates seamlessly into Career Cruising for grades 6 to 12.

Inspire connects education and industry with employer profiles, career coaches, work-based learning experiences, communication tools, local events, and social networking connections in a safe and secure platform.

Students engage with employer profiles to see how their pathways connect with businesses and organizations in their community. Students can ask questions of real working people in their community, learn about apprenticeship opportunities, and see upcoming employer-hosted events.

Employers can connect with students and share information about the work they do and skills they need. They can also target students with profiles that match their needs, all on a secure platform that protects students.

Community members can serve as pre-screened mentors to offer real-time career advice and answer students’ questions about the real world of work.

Where do I access Inspire? Participating in Inspire is easy! To access and register your business on this cloud-based platform, visit Centergy’s website to enter Inspire’s employer portal at http://www.centergy.net/workforce/inspire_employers.htm. Upon selecting a username and password, you’ll begin to establish your company profile. The company profile can describe your business, highlight unique attributes, and communicate areas of need to future employees. Upon completion of the company profile section, career coach profile, submittal and approval of a background check, you are now ready to receive and answer communications on your company message board. The message board is monitored by administrators to ensure a safe environment.

I’m Inspired but need some assistance! Have no fear, help is always available. MACCI’s workforce development director Karen Isaacson has attended training sessions, set up a company profile and is now a career coach. She will also be the Inspire Administrator for the Marshfield area businesses. Contact her at (715) 384-3454 or email [email protected] for more information.

Inspire is set to go live in the school districts on October 1, 2017. Therefore, don’t wait to get your company registered or you may be missing out on connecting with your future workforce!

MACCI was honored to coordinate the following ribbon cuttings during the month of May. Congratulations to NurtiShop and the Marshfield Job Center.

NutriShop located at 204 North Central Avenue in Marshfield cut the ribbon in the TBF Center. With the popu-lation becoming more attentive to their health and wellbeing through proper nutrition, exercise and supplementa-tion, NutriShop wanted to fill a void in the TBF facility. Over the past twelve months, owners Todd and Dawn Schoenherr diligently researched this which led them to the Nutrishop family. NutriShop checked all the neces-sary boxes. They carry their own product line, including weight loss, protein powders, BCAA's (Branched Chain Amino Acid) and more. Meal plans are only a small benefit to jumping on their INBODY scale.
