OWNERSHIPSet up by Paul Smith and Jasper Carrot in 1981 just to create the show “The Detectives” and rapidly expanded towards the UK film industry.Originally taken over by Complete Communications who later attempted to sell the rights to both Celador and “Who Wants to be a Millionaire” to the Dutch Company 2waytraffic, however this fell through when Celador Products Management bought out the company, making it self sustained. Paul Smith is now the Ceo of Celador Entertainment Limited which is an umbrella company for Celador Films, Celador International Licensing, Celador Radio, Celador Theatrical and LUSAM

OPERATING MODELThe company makes its movies one film at a time, operating on a small, sometimes very limited budget, they will often co-op with other smaller companies that will help fund the project, they will also seek out bigger companies to provide funding.Another method of obtaining funding is to sell distribution rights and use the money to help pay for the movie to be created.Profits from previous productions can be put back into the company to be used in the budget for new movies.Small companies such as this tend to put as little money as possible into a movie, for example “The Descent” had a budget of only $3.5 million, as oppose to Disneys “Pirates of the Caribbean:On Stranger Tides” which had a budget of $378.5 million

MARKET POSITION AND COMPETITORSThey are a small independent UK entertainment company that make movies one at a time as well as running radio stations and occasional TV shows. The main competitors of Celador are Vertigo and DNA Films, they all go about making movies the same way, by gaining funding from other larger companies as well as joining together to make movies.I would say that Celador is ranked pretty high in terms of small film companies, its movies get very high reviews and rating as well as their ability to produce high profit on low budgets
