22 Extron K-12 Classroom Design Guide Ceiling Mount Projector Classroom Room Needs Assessment Purpose Complete AV switching, control, and amplification system for classroom with a ceiling mount projector Viewing Distance Range From 8 feet to 40 feet Display Requirements Ceiling mount projector with screen located on front wall Sources Teacher laptop, Blu-ray player, and document camera Audio Requirements Program audio for sources as well as the teacher’s microphone Control Interface Easy-to-use control interface on the wall for projector power, source input selection, volume control, and other system functions System Design Solution Four Input Extron PoleVault ® Digital Classrom AV System Display Components One ceiling-mounted projector with 2,700 ANSI lumen brightness and a HDMI input. The projector has a native resolution of 1280x800 projected on a 109 inch diagonal, 16:10 aspect ratio pull down screen. Sources and Connectivity The following sources are available: Blu-ray Disc player with HDMI output, teacher laptop with HDMI output, and document camera with VGA output. All sources are connected to the system by Extron PVT SW switching wallplates mounted in close proximity to the source. Control Interface The Extron MLC 104 IP Plus will provide user control of this system, including display power, volume control, and source selection. The remaining button will be configured with display’s Freeze function. This allows the teacher to display the lesson on the screen while using the computer for other functions such as attendance, grading, or preparation. Switching System The Extron PVS 405D is the heart of this PoleVault Digital system. The PVS 405D provides two inputs for dual input switching wallplates which transmit high resolution AV signals to the switcher over a single, economical CATx cable. Each input wallplate supports two AV sources allowing a complete system to accommodate up to four inputs. Audio System The PVS 405D also offers an integrated 50 watt amplifier that drives a pair of Extron FF 120 speakers. The FF 120 speakers feature Extron patented Flat Field technology for consistent sound levels across the listening area, and reduce the number of speakers required in the room. This system also includes the VoiceLift Microphone which allows the teacher’s voice to be evenly distributed throughout the room and offers students a handheld microphone for class participation. Mounting All components for mounting the projector and critical AV components to the ceiling are included in the PoleVault System. In fact, the system takes its name from the unique Extron PMK 560 Pole Mount Kit that securely mounts and conceals system components above the projector. This protects them from tampering and theft, and frees up space in the classroom. Overview The classroom will be used in a K-12 education environment with the need to display multiple types of electronic media to the students while maintaining a cost-effective solution. Typically, a single instructor will be using the classroom. However, the system should be simple to operate and intuitive, allowing users to concentrate on instruction. Since the system will be used extensively on a day-to-day basis, reliability will be essential. The security of system components and their settings is also important.
