The miracle of birth is one that can be enhanced by good pre-natal care of the mother and developing fetus.

Let’s discuss some of the short term and long term implications of good pre-natal and neonatal care.

Birth Expulsion of the placenta Two deliveries are mentioned in the text this

week. As you read them think about:◦ How were they the same? ◦ How were they different?

Discuss the types of deliveries that can occur. (Breech, Caesarean, etc.)

What are some complications and their results which can take place during delivery? For example, the text reading describes an instance in which the umbilical cord is wrapped around the infants neck resulting in oxygen deprivation.

How can neonatal units try to make the first experiences of special needs infants as positive and supportive as possible?
