What is Global Warming slide 1

Global warming is when the earth heats up (the temperature rises). It happens when greenhouse gases (carbon dioxide, water vapor, nitrous oxide, and methane) trap heat and light from the sun in the earth’s atmosphere, which increases the temperature. This hurts many people, animals, and plants. Many cannot take the change, so they die.

What is Global Warming slide 2

According to Al Gore in his movie An Inconvenient Truth, he says that the earths atmosphere is so vulnerable to global warming because it is so thin.

The good news it that he seems to think that it is thin enough that we can change global warming.

What is Global Warming slide 3The Greenhouse effect

The greenhouse effect is when the temperature rises because the sun’s heat and light is trapped in the earth’s atmosphere.

What or Who causes Global Warming Slide 1

Electrical pollution example: fossil fuels are burned to create electricity

Usually fossil fuels are burned to create electricity.

Fossil fuels are made of dead plants and animals.

What or Who causes Global Warming Slide 3

Some of the Chemicals that we use are polluting the air, water, and land

Some of these chemicals are called Greenhouse Gases

Petroleum is a source of energy that is used a lot. Ex:transportation and making electricity

Petroleum gives off a lot of pollution and is used for 38% of the United States’ energy.

What can we do to prevent Global Warming Slide 1 What is the Government doing?

The government made a law called The Clean Air Act so there is less air pollution.

The Clean Air Act is the law that defines EPA's responsibilities for protecting and improving the nation's air quality and the stratospheric ozone layer.

What can we do to prevent Global Warming Slide 2 What are we doing?

People are carpooling Watching what products we buy Not littering Recycling Planting trees

What can we do to prevent Global Warming Slide 3

Buy a hybrid car if you can

Walk or Ride a bike Recycle Plant LOTS of trees Freeze CO2 Omissions Vote people into office

that want to change this

Conclusion

Global Warming is a problem There are things that the Government and people

are doing to help Global Warming We need to continue to do our part so the earth is a

safe place for us and our children.
