KIMBERLEY MOTLEY Keynote

Nicknamed “911,” and a former beauty queen, crowned Miss Wisconsin 2004, Ms. Motley is

the first and only foreign lawyer to practice in Afghanistan where she handles everything from

contract disputes to human rights violations. Armed with an unwavering determination and a

passion for justice, she navigates the country’s punitive and capricious legal system with

unprecedented success.

The feature documentary about her work, Motley’s Law, was released in the fall of 2015, and

won the Grand Jury Prize at DOC NYC, New York’s Documentary Festival. Her expert legal

work and legal research and precedent has earned international attention with segments on

CNN, the BBC, NBC, and Dan Rather Reports, as well as articles in The New York Times, Vanity

Fair, The Guardian, The Washington Post, and The Huffington Post, among many others. Motley

has also published several articles on juvenile justice and contemporary legal issues in

Afghanistan. She is currently penning a book chronicling her experiences as a Western

attorney in the Middle East. She lectures around the world including at TEDGlobal on

humanitarian issues and maintaining the integrity of the law.

As keynote, Ms. Motley will discuss the global human rights economy, and how and why we

should all pay attention to – and take full advantage of – the rule of law. She will also

conduct a separate breakout workshop with young lawyers to develop their negotiation skills.

SWIPE LEFT: RETHINKING MENTORING FRIDAY, July 27 | 2:00 – 2:50 PM | TELLURIDE CONFERENCE CENTER

Two things are certain when it comes to young attorneys: 1) to be successful they need

training, experience and mentoring to discover their true potential and 2) traditional

mentoring and training programs simply do not work for most young attorneys. This spring

CDLA joined with the Colorado Supreme Court’s Colorado Attorney Mentoring Program

(CAMP) to beta-test a new way of mentoring. Come hear our lessons learned, insights

and consider getting involved.

THE ANNUAL CONFERENCE +

HUB’S PUB RAFFLE + SILENT AUCTION

Each year at the CDLA Annual Conference, CDLA holds a raff le and silent auction

nicknamed the “Hub’s Pub” in honor of Daniel M. Hubbard, the former incoming president

of CDLA, who suffered a cardiac incident while riding his bicycle home from work and

passed away unexpectedly. The money raised through the Hub’s Pub goes toward

purchasing bicycles that are donated to the Children’s Hospital of Colorado for their

annual Christmas event known as the “Snowpile” that provides toys to their disadvantaged

patients and their siblings. Over the past 6 years, the Hub’s Pub raffle and silent auction

has raised over $59,000 and donated over 200 Specialized and Trek bicycles and helmets for

the Colorado Children’s Hospital event.

The Hub’s Pub raffle and silent auction, however, is not the only way to contribute to the

Children’s Hospital “Snowpile” event. We understand that busy and hectic personal and

business schedules do not allow all to attend the Conference and participate in the Hub’s

Pub event. To help simplify community involvement, CDLA has created an easy and

efficient way for firm and individual members to donate directly via a link on the CDLA

website at www.codla.org.

All donations are tax deductible.
