New for 2013-14 termWe are rolling out some exciting new programs for 2013-2014. Here is a peek: Junior Musical Theatre Intensive Program (for ages 9-14) Directed by Dee Anne Bryll, this program is designed for the serious young musical theatre student. This auditioned program is holistic and designed around the spring musical, and expanding their acting, vocal and musical skills throughout the year through rehearsals for the musical. Only students in this program will be cast in the musical. Students will also participate in the Junior Theatre Festival in Atlanta, Ga. Jan. 17-19, 2014. Noon-1:30 p.m. every Saturday. Honors High School Theatre Program Directed by Elizabeth Harris, this intensive one-year pre-professional/pre-collegiate program is designed to create well-rounded, curious, and thoughtful theatre artists. The program is designed so each

class incorporates the understanding of historical and sociological contexts as well as performance and project elements. Also available is an optional one-week Study Abroad course in London, England during winter break. Violins to violas If you have considered switching to the viola, or would like the opportunity to try out this warm and vibrant understated instrument, this is the class for you. It’s led by CCM faculty member Betty Anne Gottlieb. Participants must provide their own viola and have at least one year of experience playing a string instrument. Accommodations will be made for students with varying ability levels. Sundays at 1 p.m. at UC Blue Ash. I have to share with you this picture of my oboe student, Ava Jones, with me at CCM Preparatory’s end-of-the-year picnic. Ava started taking oboe lessons at CCM Prep at the end of fifth grade. She studied with me for seven years. Ava performed in the Junior Youth Wind Ensemble for two years and in CYWE for four years. Now she is going off to Ohio University to study music education. Ava is typical of so many of our students. She is bright, active in so many areas and she loves music. Her decision to major in music did not come from any of us, but from herself. We like to think that the environment we create here at CCM Preparatory allows students to explore the possibilities for the future. Some decide that majoring in the arts is not for them; others realize that they can’t imagine doing otherwise.

Whatever path our students choose, we hope their time with us has a positive impact on them for the rest of their lives. — Amy Dennison, Assistant Dean, CCM Preparatory Director
