All family members grouped in one list, with options to link/unlink

returns for the spouse and dependants. Use the mouse or

keyboard shortcuts to quickly switch between returns.

T1 returns prepared for 2016 and forward are just a click away.



Switch to the spouse’s tax return.

Note that you should use the Family Profile form to also identify dependants for which you are not filing a tax return

Working with Forms and Cells

Benefits

▪ Access the list of tax return forms with keyboard shortcuts (Press F4 or Ctrl+Space) and locate the desired tax form using a keyword search (e.g. Medical).

▪ Add or delete copies of certain forms in a single click.▪ Access source cells in four different ways: double-click, right-click,

shortcut key (F6) and right pane.▪ Use the quick entry feature to efficiently enter data from tax slips.

To access a list of ALL forms, click the Forms button or press (F4) or

(Ctrl+Space).

Delete the copy of the form.


Add a new copy of the form.

Remove the form from the list of opened forms (data entered

remains included in the tax return). You can also use the form options in this panel to close forms as well as to add and

delete form copies.

To search for a specific form, enter a keyword. The list is

automatically filtered as you type. Press Enter to open the

desired form.



Grey cell indicates a calculated cell. Double-click or press F6 to jump to the source. Type in a new value to manually override the calculated value.

Overridden cells are shown in orange. To remove the override, right-click in the cell and select Remove Override or press F2 or Ctrl+U.

You can use the cell options in this panel to remove an override

or jump to a source cell.


Type the box number or select it from the drop-down

list and enter the amount. Then, press the Enter key to type the next box number.

The amount entered will automatically be transferred to the correct box number.

Diagnostics

Benefits

▪ Over 6,000 diagnostics (T1 and T2) warns you of possible errors, omissions, and tax optimizations.

▪ Diagnostics help you make returns eligible for EFILE.

▪ An audit trail to review diagnostics helps you enhance your quality control process.

Use the Diagnostics view menu to review CCH iFirm Tax

messages. Most resolved diagnostics will disappear from

the list.


Click Hide diagnostic for diagnostics that are

resolved but still display on the list.

Diagnostics are categorized according to their importance.

Place your cursor over an indicator to see the diagnostic type:

Red = errorYellow = warning

Blue = informationPlace your cursor over cells with a red triangle to see

the diagnostics text.

Use the filter tabs to display only certain types

of diagnostics.

Audit trail of hidden diagnostics is always

available.


Diagnostics hidden by error can be returned to the main list by

clicking Show diagnostic.

Always view number of unresolved diagnostics and

click to display them.

Review Marks, Comments and Spreadsheets


Review Marks, Comments and Spreadsheets

Benefits

▪ Review marks allow you to be more efficient when preparing the tax return. Choose between four types: First review, Second review, Question, Problem.

▪ Use comments to explain the amounts entered in a field, and to exchange information between users.

▪ You can apply review marks and comments in four different ways: right-click, shortcut keys, review mode and by selecting them from the right-hand pane.

▪ Use spreadsheets to provide a calculation breakdown from an Excel-type spreadsheet.

Right-hand pane

Mode to quickly apply review marks in a

single click.


List of all review marks or comments in the tax return. Quickly see interactions

between users by placing your cursor over a cell.


Filter to display only certain review marks

Remove the check mark to prevent review mark indicators

from appearing on cells.

Delete a review mark or comment by clicking Remove.

Indicators to identify the types of review

marks.

Review mark and comment indicators appear in a green box to the right of the cell.

Always review the number of Question and Problem review marks and all comments.

Click here to display them.


Use a spreadsheet to provide breakdown calculations for a specific line in the tax return.


Select a cell with an amount to transfer into the tax return

and click Select as source.

The amount transferred into the tax return is displayed here.

Click the Save button when done.


Amounts transferred from spreadsheets will appear in

purple to be differentiated from amounts entered manually.

▪ Efficiently review the tax return by displaying only the data cells that were entered this year or data cells with a review mark, comment or diagnostic.

▪ Make corrections in the Review tab. The corrections will update directly in the tax return.

Select the Data entered this year view to see only the information

entered in the tax return this year.

List of forms in which data was entered this year.


The Review tab allows you to efficiently review the tax return by

displaying only the relevant data cells.

Select the desired filter according to type of review.

The Imported option will allow you to display all data

imported from the CRA.

Data can be modified in this column and will be

updated to the tax return.

EFILE

Tax settings

Click EFILE information to access your user

settings.

Enter the EFILE credentials in the Tax tab of the User settings of staff members

who are responsible for EFILING.

Click Savewhen done.

Use the EFILE filter to ensure that all EFILE diagnostics are resolved.

Red colour EFILE diagnostics must be resolved in order for the tax

return to become eligible for EFILE.


All EFILE statuses at a glance for the entire family.

Once eligible, select EFILE Returns to EFILE the T1/TP1

returns and/or the T1135 form.Select T1013 authorizations to

EFILE the T1013 form.


Click the Tracking tab to see the EFILE statuses.


Eligible tax returns are automatically selected. Clear the box next to the tax returns that

you do not want to transmit.

Statuses are updated after the transmission.


Click Details to see the EFILE Transmission history including

the confirmation number.


Click the Print button to print a copy of the

Transmission History

A complete transmission history is displayed for

the tax return.


All corporate EFILE statuses are also available at a glance from the Tracking tab when working in the Corporate Tax module.

Click here to attach supporting documents to EFILE with the T2 return.

Same for supporting documents to transmit with the Québec CO-17.


Click here to browse for supporting documents.

Select T2 or CO-17, select the type of

document from the list and enter a description.

Click Upload and savewhen done.

Place your cursor on T2 or CO-17 to see the list of supported file types.


Click EFILE to transmit the selected tax returns.

Eligible corporate tax returns will be selected by default and the number of supporting documents

is indicated below the paperclip icon.

Printing Returns and Forms

Benefits

▪ CCH iFirm Tax creates a PDF version of the tax returns and forms that meets the CRA requirements (official copy vs. onscreen forms optimized for data entry).

▪ Predefined print sets and client letters make it easier to print.▪ A print set editor (available in May 2018) and client letter editor

(available at end of 2018) allows you to customize documents.

Choose between predefined and

custom form sets.


The Merge PDF option combines all tax returns into a single PDF for efficient printing of paper copies.

Clear this option when creating only PDF copies to have a separate PDF for each tax return.

If you select Custom set, click here to

select forms to print.



Bookmarked PDF version of the tax return, ready for printing or

distribution to clients via the portal.

Click this button to see the notifications once the PDF copy becomes available.

The PDF version of the tax return will automatically open in a separate browser window.

Click Download to save a copy of the PDF

on your computer.

Import Using the CRA Auto-fill my return service


Import from the CRA Auto-fill my return

Benefits

▪ Save time on data entry by automatically populating the T1 returns with CRA information.

▪ Identify tax slips that your client forgot to give you and import data they contain to avoid costly penalties and interest.

▪ Replaces the need to manually access the CRA Represent a Client Web site.

▪ During the review process, save time by seeing at a glance which slips were imported from the CRA, by which user, and when.

Click Download to connect to the CRA Auto-fill my return service.


Select Import using the Auto-fill my return service to download tax

slips and opening balances.

You can also download the taxpayer’s Notice of Assessment once the tax

return is EFILED and accepted.

Select the members of the family for whom you want to download

data and click the Download button to open the CRA web portal.


Note that you must have a valid authorization from the

taxpayer to be able to download tax slips.

Sign-in using your Represent a Client credentials


CCH iFirm Tax will then launch the CRA’s Tax information web service.


Click I agree at the bottom of the Terms and conditions of use page.


Click Next to confirm that you want to download the

information for the listed SINs.

Review the tax slips downloaded from the CRA, and match against

existing slips issuers before importing into the return.


Import selected tax slips into the tax return.

Select which tax slip copy the data will be transferred to or leave the

default option Add a new (slip name) to create a new copy

Compare imported data to current data in the tax return.

A warning message will display indicating that the data will be

imported into the return. Simply click Continue.


This slip was imported from the CRA Auto-fill my return service.

All values in green are from the CRA.

Click the Retrieve tab.

Drag and drop a GIFI file or click here to browse your computer.


Only files with a .gfi extension are supported.

Click Import to transfer the GIFI file into the tax return.


A log will display to notify you of errors and operator changes.


Click a GIFI account number to quickly access that line.

The date and name of the user who imported the GIFI

will be indicated here.

Click this button to securely publish tax returns, forms or the Notice of Assessment to

your client’s portal.


Options to only publish the current form, the

entire tax return or the Notice of Assessment.

Choose between predefined and

custom form sets.

By default, all family members’ returns will be selected with the option

to clear, if required.

Preview the PDF prior to publishing.


Client Portal to which the tax returns will be

published.


Check the notifications to verify successful publishing.


Access client portals by clicking published

documents.


Clients will be notified that new documents are available on their portal.

Easy Roll Forward


Easy Roll Forward

Benefits▪ Smooth transition over to CCH iFirm Tax.▪ Roll forward 2016 T1 and TP1 (when applicable) from Intuit ProFile,

TaxCycle, Taxprep, Cantax and DT Max (contact the Support Centre to roll forward from DT Max).

▪ Roll forward T2 returns for taxation years that start in 2015 or later from Intuit ProFile, TaxCycle, Taxprep, Cantax and DT Max (contact the Support Centre to roll forward from DT Max and Cantax T2).

▪ Retain permanent info, opening balances and Five-Year Comparative Summary.

Tax settings

Create tax returns by importing Taxprep client files.

Click the Roll forward button to create a current-year tax return from a previous-year tax return.


Select the 2016 tax returns you want to roll forward to 2017.

Note that permanent information, opening balances and comparative

information will be saved.

Click to roll forward the selected tax returns.

The CCH iFirm Tax tab will display all tax returns prepared with CCH iFirm Tax in the previous year

Other software programs allow you to roll forward tax returns from ProFile,

TaxCycle, Taxprep and Cantax.

Click Select a file to select files from another software program

on your computer.

Click this button to upload and roll forward the selected tax returns.

Maximum 200 data files in each roll forward batch


A notification will display once tax returns are

successfully rolled forward.

New current-year tax returns will then be listed in the Tax view.
