“At Y Day Camp, we learned about character. My favorite pillar is respect because you can help others by teaching them to respect themselves and others. Plus, in camp I read and read!”
SHAINA J. 7, 2ND GRADE
“My family doesn’t have enough money, but instead of going nowhere this summer, I went to camp. In the beginning no one knew each other and we were shy. Camp encouraged us and we really learned that if we work together we can succeed. Different people can be friends, and still be themselves. I learned so much about the environment, about nutrition, about people. I can teach it to my friends. At the end everyone was crying because no one wanted to leave. I still can’t believe that it was only one week!”
MARCUS G. 12, Y SUMMER RESIDENT
CAMP PARTICIPANT
“My brother and I joined the Y because there is no other place like it in our neighborhood. I used to be home alone all the time and had no friends, but at the Teen Center I’ve made lots of friends. Now I participate in programs with my friends all day. My favorite is art, I love to be creative! I finally feel like there is someplace I belong.”

HOW DOES THE Y MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN THE SUMMER?
The CCF fund has provided more than 2,200 youth and families with participation in Y programs that explore nature, fitness, academics, sports, nutrition, civic action, and wellness.
“Over the summer, kids in my neighborhood can become bad, because there isn’t a parent around. In this program, they can learn something good, and experience positive things. The YMCA is our good place.”
