Term 1 Week 3
Coleambally Central School
A Quality Education in your Community
This week at
Coleambally Central School
14 - 15 February Borambola Sport & Recreational Camp Yr 7
Welcome to Week 3 of Term 1! Last week I discussed the importance of community partnerships. Local identity Rudy Meyer loved the land; working first in shearing sheds, then as a rice farmer in Coleambally. As a youth his experiences in a Japanese concentration camp and as a migrant to Australia, as revealed in his biog-raphy Let's Look at the Sunset, demonstrated his incredible perseverance and survival skills to achieve his dreams. Rudy Meyer passed away in late 2012 and a scholarship has been created in memory of him and his love of the outdoors by his daughters, Ingrid Corcoran and Vicki Meyer. The scholarship provides a great opportunity for two students 15-17 years old to attend an Outward Bound Navigator Course fully sponsored, the fee for the course is valued at over $2000. This 12 day course held in school holidays is designed to help young people discover, develop and achieve their potential physically, socially, intellectually and emotionally, and to develop the confidence to face the challenges of school or work. The Navigator program is full of adventure, wilderness, new friends and fun, whilst discovering and developing potential. Completing this program is a great achievement an Outward Bound certificate is a worthy addition to your resume. If you are interested, please visit the website www.outwardbound.org.au and check out the photos and details of what’s involved in Navigator courses. Tom Breed and George Payne completed the Navigator course last year and Mr Allen has information on the course. For any further information, contact Penny Sheppard on 02 6954 9157. Swimming Carnival As most would be aware our K-12 Swimming Carnival last Friday was called off due to the extreme weather and lightning and the safety of all those present. We would like to thank the community for their under-standing and Robertson’s Bus Service for providing transport to return students to school at short notice. Yesterday the Swimming Carnival Mark II took place, with the weather being much kinder and all events complet-ed. Internet Outage As a result of the extreme lightning last Friday, the school suffered an internet outage which was not repaired until late yesterday afternoon. During the outage staff had no access to both the internet or the school server, meaning many activities were affected, including Kindergarten and Year 7 Best Start, Aurora College and the production of the school newsletter. Our apologies for any inconvenience.

Canberra Institute of Technology In last week’s newsletter was information on the partnership between the school, the Canberra Institute of Tech-nology and Neoen to offer opportunities to students. Today, students in Years 10 and 11 were provided with information and a permission note. Parents and carers are reminded that numbers are strictly limited and that there are conditions on participation, so return notes promptly if you wish to be considered for this wonderful opportunity. School Maintenance In fantastic news we have been informed that the school has received additional funds from Assets for mainte-nance, with nearly $100,000 worth of maintenance planned to take place through the course of this year. Unfor-tunately, a number of trees are currently being removed from the school grounds this week after being classified as dangerous after a tree inspection by an arborist during the holidays. Borambola Camp This Thursday and Friday our Year 7 students and Peer Support Leaders participate in a two day camp at Borambola Sport and Recreation Camp near Wagga as part of the Year 7 Transition Program. Thank you to Mr Turtle, Mrs Pretty and Mrs Lafsky who will accompany students. STEM This term the school will receive the Secondary Virtual Reality (VR) STEMShare Kit. The school will also be visited by a STEM Share educator who will work with students at both Tirkandi Inaburra and Coleambally Central School on STEM activities. This will follow on from the use in the last term of 2018 of the Primary Virtual Reality (VR) STEMShare Kit. Lots a great initiatives occurring! Finally…. This week I will be attending a Principal’s Conference in Wagga on Thursday and Friday. Our door is and always has been open – whether you are happy, sad or mad. We need to know if we are not doing something right, but I also need to know that you trust our motives and intentions. Everything we do, every single day is for YOUR children. Until next week,
Timothy Allen
