Students recruited into the Speakers’ Ink WILL be trained to become competent and confident:

- DEBATERS at the College (CJC) AND/OR Inter-College / National Levels of involvement and representation The Speakers’ Ink aims to develop all our student members into becoming proficient, top-notch Debaters and/or Public Speakers, to help prepare them for the rigorous demands of today’s university and also professional world.

Public Speaking segment - each applicant has to present a 3-minute Impromptu Speech on a given motion, e.g. "Absence makes the heart grow fonder" or "The customer is always right", and fulfill minimally a set of criteria on which to base his/her eligibility and aptitude as a Public Speaker-in-training; AND/OR
Criteria to do with aptitude and quality of delivery, taking into account the criteria of CONTENT, LANGUAGE and PRESENCE.

DEBATING segment - each applicant has to give his/her reasons (at least 3 convincing ones, which must be well supported and thoroughly or stylishly argued) to establish his/her stand with regard to why he/she agrees or disagrees with the motion, e.g. "This House believes that press freedom should be abolished".
Criteria to do with quality and depth of mature, logical thought and also stylistics and flair of argumentation, enriched by a firm, competent grasp of the English Language

‘O-Level English Language Grade At least a B3 (preferably A1) for 'O'-Level English; 'O-Level L1R5 Raw Score should NOT exceed 14 points

Experience factor – Applicant could bring along any relevant document/certificate verifying relevant experience in Debating / Public Speaking / Emceeing / Radio Broadcasting / Drama / Theatre, for favorable consideration too.
Some credible level of experience and/or achievement in these related fields would be preferred.
