Oxfam Hong Kong and Gwen Yip, Madeleine Marie Slavick, HK Honey, Parallel Lab (Geraldine Borio & Caroline Wuthrich), Stephen Chung & Jennifer Yip and Stella So set out to create are that will inspire their audience to join the campaign for a fair food future.

She is the author of three books: Western Europe (2002), Trans-Siberian Railway (2003) and Working Holiday in London (2009). Concept (Black and White / Mixed Media): We see black. We see white. We tend to forget about grey. Open your eyes. Open your heart. It’s time to do something.

Madeleine Marie Slavick Author and photographer Madeleine Marie Slavick has helped create several award-winning books. She has exhibited her photography internationally, and as a poet-singer she has performed at concerts, rallies, universities, and on television. Her books include Fifty Stories Fifty Images (of Hong Kong), Something Beautiful Might Happen (published in Tokyo), China Voices (with Oxfam), My Favourite Thing (a bestseller in Beijing, with Oxfam), Round – Poems and Photographs of Asia (Bumbershoot Book Award in Seattle) and China – The Dragon Awakes (a bestseller in Hong Kong). Her daily blog has visitors from almost 100 countries. Born in the United States, she has lived in Hong Kong for almost 25 years and is currently based in New Zealand. Concept (Step right in, Step right up / Photography): My photographic images usually have no people. The spaces are open, for anyone, everyone, to enter. When we enter, maybe we see and feel inequality, injustice. As if a misuse of power. As if the central square became that large and lonely by controlling and exploiting the others. And how many more squares are there in the distance? As if eternity, infinity. Maybe we step right in. Step right up onto that square platform. All of us, one by one, voting for justice, equality: when seven out of seven people in the world are not hungry, and seven out of seven people in Hong Kong are not poor. 7 / 7 begins with 1 / 1.

    HK Honey

  • HK Honey is an organisation of Hong Kong beekeepers, artists and designers founded in July 2010. It aims to communicate the value of bees and benefits of locally produced honey. It has a network of bee farms, a design studio and collaborates with different organisations and communities in Hong Kong, such as Amnesty International and local and international schools. Since opening its rooftop farm in July 2010, HK Honey has had over 50 tour groups from different schools, universities, non-profit organisations and groups from abroad. HK Honey is delighted to show people a relationship between bees and the edible plants that grow on its rooftop. It harvests local honey and designs products and services relating to urban beekeeping, such as beeswax candles and custom made wooden beehives. Concept (Supermarket Shelf / Mixed Media): Supermarket Shelf is an exhibit of different jars of honey on one shelf to communicate issues relating to our local and global food systems. The exhibit aims to encourage future honey consumers to make more informed decisions when buying honey and other foods from supermarkets or directly from local food producers. Supermarket Shelf is also a celebration of Wing Wo Bee Farm, a local bee farm owned by Mr. and Mrs. Yip in Shatin. Customers who purchase honey from the Wing Wo Bee Farm will have their honey delivered by Mr. Yip himself. This relationship between customer and food producer has profound social, cultural and economic value. Please support Hong Kong’s remaining food producers and local farms.

Parallel Lab (Geraldine Borio & Caroline Wuthrich) Parallel Lab is an architectural office and laboratory for urban research based in Hong Kong, which was founded by two Swiss architects Geraldine Borio & Caroline Wuthrich. Engaged in researches on urban development in Asian metropolises, their point of view is oriented to the micro-scale of the urban condition which enables the audience to understand its functioning from the users’ point of view. Through their projects and the eyes of various media, Parallel Lab explores and talks about the interweaving evolution of the city, its architecture and the people. Besides their work at Parallel Lab, Geraldine Borio & Caroline Wuthrich are respectively teaching and researching in the field of architecture at The School of Design, Polytechnic University and The Chinese University of Hong Kong. Concept (HK$68.70 / Photography): 21 December 2008, a small market of suburban Addis-Ababa, Ethiopia; a mother of three children is bargaining for 1/4 of an onion. After the negotiation, she puts it in her big plastic basket branded Huajian Group. Everyone in the area knows these bags; they were given to the families that were recently kicked out of the land their ancestors have been cultivating since generations. 28 November 2013, Wellcome supermarket, Hong Kong; Kwansin is shopping for tonight’s meal. She picks up a Styrofoam basket where 1/7 of an onion is delicately wrapped by cellophane. She thinks to herself, “Gosh…HK$68.70, prices have gone up again…” Unfair economic system is the principal cause of hunger. But for many people, it is often too abstract to understand the link to our daily life in Hong Kong. Through a photographic still life, we will offer a glimpse of what it could be if Hong Kong’s status would change.

Stephen Chung & Jennifer Yip Stephen Chung graduated from the School of Journalism and Communication, the Chinese University of Hong Kong. After working in several 4A advertising agencies, he established Secret Tour Hong Kong in 2012 to promote the real and local face of Hong Kong though tours and creative projects. Her works have been displayed in her solo exhibition, Ten Years, as well as other exhibitions such as Silence is a Lie (Berlin) and 脱原発 (Japan). Concept (#The Wrong Tag / Mixed media):

For those who are environmentally minded, they don’t need to be reminded. In this digital age, we are online all the time. It is easy to acquire any kind of information as long as you have the motivation. The problem is for those who don’t care about the environment, how can we remind them? The answer is the ‘hashtag’ (#) function of the iPhone app Instagram: “#pretty” for photos of hot girls, “#dinner” for photos of your meal. So please take a photo of this art piece. Then upload it to Instagram and hashtag it with the keywords on the frame. Let us remind those who may not be concerned about the environment - but only want to see photos of #yummy #dinner #hot #fashion #car #lunch #yummy #restaurant – of this important message.
