FUN FACTS

The Double Bass is the lowest and largest bowed string instrument in the orchestra.

The design comes from a mixture of the old viola da gamba and

violin families. 🎻

It is the most versatile instrument in the String section, as it’s used in orchestras, concert bands, jazz bands, dance and pop music,

military bands and in folk music. 🎤

There is a giant bass called the Octobass, which is so big that it is played with a system of levers and pedals. It is nearly double the

height of a normal Double Bass! 🦕

You can play it sitting on a stool or standing next to it. 🪑 🧍

Before the1900s, Double Basses had 3 strings. Now they can have

4, 5 or even 6 strings! 👀
