Joining our law study abroad programme in Dubai will introduce you to the bustling economic centers of the Middle East, mainly Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Before letting you loose to explore the city, you’ll receive a crash course on the Arabic language. Our introductory Arabic course will help you get around the city and equip you with the basic knowledge for learning and enjoying the Arabic culture, customs, and people for the weeks to come.

A certificate as well as an academic transcript will be issued to the participates, containing topics covered during the programme.

Banking in the Middle East and Introduction to Islamic BankingIslamic finance is now one of the world’s fastest-growing economic sectors. It comprises more than 400 institutions with assets under management in excess of US$ 1 trillion. Islamic finance refers to a system of banking or banking activity that is consistent with the principles of Islamic law (Sharia) and its practical application through the development of Islamic banking and finance. You will learn about Islamic banking and finance and how it’s different from conventional economics.

Logistics, Aviation, and Hospitality Management in the Middle EastLogistics is the management of the flow of goods, information and other resources between the point of origin and the point of consumption in order to meet the requirements of customers. With the famous airline Emirates and its newly expanded international airport, Dubai is already the most important logistics hub in the Middle East. To keep that position it developed in the last couple of years the worlds largest free trade zone including Jebel Ali Port and the construction site of the world’s biggest airport, Dubai World Central, with a future yearly capacity of 160 million passengers. You will learn about the importance of Dubai as oneof the major logistic hubs worldwide. Dubai is also internationally well known for its highest level of hospitality management. Many 5-star hotels are located here and Jumeirah, the world’s famous luxury hotel chain is headquartered in the city. The seven star hotel Burj Al Arab is also located in Dubai. DR. JAN HENDRIK KRAUSGENERAL MANAGER, GROUP STRATEGY EMIRATES NBDDr. Jan Hendrik Kraus joined Emirates Bank in January 2007 as Head of Group Strategy. In October 2007, Emirates Bank and National Bank of Dubai (NBD) merged to form Emirates NBD, the largest banking group in the GCC in terms of assets. After coordinating the integration of the two banks, first as the Head of the Integration Office and later as General Manager Integration, Dr. Kraus became General Manager Group Strategy for the combined entity.

Prior to joining Emirates Bank, Dr. Kraus worked over seven years for McKinsey & Company as a top management strategy consultant in the areas of retail banking, corporate banking, asset management and insurance. He led several international projects with focus on strategy and business building, sales optimization and marketing. He was member of the European Marketing practice with a particular focus on customer insights initiatives. Prior to McKinsey Dr. Kraus worked for Deutsche Bank in Germany.

Dr. Kraus studied Business Administration in Germany and Berkeley, California. He holds a degree from University of Muenster, Germany. He also holds a PhD in Finance for his work on pricing in the mutual fund industry based on insights on customer buying behavior.

PHILIP BREARFACULTY, BUSINESS LAWNATIONALITY: BRITISHPhilip was born in Yorkshire in England. He moved across the border to Lancashire in 1983 to work as a Senior Lecturer in Banking and Finance at the University College in Salford in their Faculty of Business and Management. In 1981 he became a fully qualified banker having passed his final exams for the professional qualification of ‘ACIB’ from the Chartered Institute of Bankers in London. It was at this point that Philip was promoted to Head of Foreign Exchange Dept and No.1 Corporate Dealer at Midland Bank IDB North.

After eight years at the University College in Salford, Philip left the UK and moved abroad to Jersey to take up his new position as

was appointed by the ‘Foreign Office’ in London as the Technical Cooperation Officer for banking education to work on the Institutio-nal Development Project at the Central Bank of Egypt’s new Bank Training Institute, where he became involved in teacher training of local counterparts, writing short courses and course textbooks, and developing professional studies for part-time Egyptian Banking students in the afternoons and evenings.

MONICA GALLANTPROGRAM CHAIR, BUSINESSNATIONALITY: CANADIANDr. Monica Gallant originally qualified as a Chartered Accountant in Canada before embarking on a career in education. After teaching for 8 years at a college in Canada, Monica decided to search for a more international experience by coming to Dubai. She joined Dubai Women’s College in 1996, first as a Business professor and then as Chair of the Business Department. While in Dubai, Monica developed a great interest in local culture and completed a Doctorate in Education based on a study of the issues facing UAE national women in the work place. This research has been published as a book entitled “Emirati Women in Dubai: Navigating Cultural Change”. In order to overcome cultural stereotypes, Monica founded the annual Insight Dubai conference at the college on the topic of Wo-men’s Empowerment in the Arab World. This conference which unites 130 female students from over 35 countries in an intensive, participative format has shown how strong cultural misconceptions can be exploded by stimulating interactions over only 5-6 days.

DR. INDRANI HAZARIKAFACULTY, BUSINESSNATIONALITY: INDIANIndrani completed her Master Degree in Commerce with specialization in Accounting and Finance from Gauhati University and was the University topper.SheI was awarded the prestigious Junior Research Fellowship by University Grants Commission of India for carrying out my research in the area of Finance and Tax. She is also a qualified Chartered Accountant of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India. She holds the following qualificationsa M.Com- Gold Medalist, PhD, UGC JRF NET, ACA Indrani served as a permanent faculty at both undergraduate and post graduate level in Gauhati Commerce College. She joined JVIMS in 1999 before relocating to Dubai and was a permanent faculty for under graduate and post graduate Business Programs. She was also a visiting faculty for Executive MBA program of All India Management Association and a Financial Advisor and Tax Consul-tant of Atika Group of Companies. Prior to joining HCT she was the Manager Training and Research of Dubai Gold and Commodities Exchange. Where she conducted workshops on Value at Risk for bank employees in Emirates Institute of Banking and Financial Stu-dies and had a few national and international publications on Contemporary and Emerging Issues in Accounting and Finance.

PAYMENT TERMS

A registration fee of USD 400 must be paid upon confir-mation from CBL International about your participation. This amount is non‐refundable and will be deducted from your tuition fee.

In case you apply for the programme less than 3 months prior to the programme’s start date, the full payment is required after being accepted to the programme.

The tuition includes all lectures, visits, the trip to Abu Dhabi, and handed out materials (handbook, certificate, copied lecture material), transportation directly con-nected to the programme and sight seeing.

The tuition fee and accommodation fee must be paid at least 2 months prior to the start of the programme. Payments can be made by money transfer or credit card. Details will be provided in the invoice message.

DISCLAIMER

The lecture fee includes all lectures, lecture materials, spare time activities, planned excursions and company visits.
