    Cowgirlblues is a dye house and design studio specialising in mohair and

    merino wool. Cowgirlblues is all about personal connection and quality.

    Each piece is individually handcrafted using traditional methods, with a

    contemporary twist. This involves many pairs of hands from rearing thesheep and goats on Karoo farms, to shearing, clipping, cleaning, spinning,

    making and dyeing the wool and products in our Cape Town workshop. Our

    materials are lovingly handled, touched, held, worked, softened and coaxed

    Kwanza Collections - Tanzania

    Kwanza Collection works with women groups in the Njombe region to

    produce the unique Iringa Baskets which are only found in this remote region

    of Tanzania. Woven utilizing local reeds and natural dyes, these authentic

    baskets have a very natural and timeless appeal. Kwanza also work with a

    talented artist to develop a range of paper mache animal gures, made from

    recycled packaging materials and cassava starch.

    Undugus home decor range is made from the beautiful Kisii soapstone,

    found in the hills of western Kenya. Each item is100% hand-carved and

    decorated, displaying a high level of craftsmanship. The collection fuses

    traditional skills with contemporary design, giving a fresh twist to an age-old

    craft. Their new collection features simple shapes and trendy colours, giving

    the product range a very contemporary feel.

    Katchy Kollections - Kenya

    Katchy Kollections is an innovative design company, started by the young

    talented Kenyan fashion designer Anthony Mulli. The company specializes in

    designing and fabricating jewellery, fashion accessories and home dcor. In

    their latest collection they have used hand crocheted plastic bags to create

    a line of trendy bags and storage containers. Katchy Kollections designs are

    also inspired by the rich and colourful Maasai jewellery tradition. Each product

    is adorned with intricate beaded ornaments that have become a signature of

    the brand.

    KICK is specialized in recycling waste into cheerful greetings. The company

    utilizes waste paper, water hyacinth, copper wire, tin, tetra-packs and old

    mobile phone cards to craft beautiful greeting cards for almost any occasion.

    Each card is 100% handcrafted and re ects an amazing ingenuity and ability

    to improvise. Based on the shores of Lake Victoria, Kick gives employment to

    disadvantaged youth in the region by offering them training and then helping

    them set up as independent suppliers.

    WomenCraft - Tanzania

    WomenCraft works together with more than 300 women in rural Tanzania

    to design, produce and export a distinctive line of hand-woven basketry,

    combining natural bres with the vibrant fabrics of the region. WomenCraftfuses traditional weaving techniques with a modern aesthetic to create high-

    quality, home dcor items from sustainable natural materials. Our business

    model creates economic opportunity for women and positive social change in

    post-con ict communities in East Africa.

    Kwetu Africa - Uganda

    Kwetu Africa is run by the Ugandan artist and designer Sanaa Gateja. In the

    true sense of the word, he succeeds in UP-cycling recycled paper beads into

    sophisticated wearable art pieces, a style he refers to as Art Wear. His rawmaterials are old books, magazines and posters and in each product, he

    transforms the words and images into colours, textures and patterns. The

    process of making the recycled paper beads is labour intensive and requires

    skilled hands. Kwetu creates employment for numerous women in and

    around the city of Kampala in Uganda.

    Bawa La Tumaini - Kenya

    Bawa design and produce an attractive jewellery collection made from materials

    like horn, bone, brass, aluminium and ceramics. Their jewellery range seeks to

    re-interpret traditional African jewellery in a contemporary style, making it trendy

    and wearable for anyone. The pieces also live from the mix of different materials,

    beautifully crafted in a high quality nish. Bawas business model aims at

    working with a network of gifted artisans in low-income areas and slums around

    the city of Nairobi. Through this, Bawa seeks to create opportunities for their

    producers as well as celebrate their creativity and craftsmanship.

    Uganda Crafts 2000 - Uganda

    Uganda Crafts works with women groups from all over Uganda to produce

    a wide variety of both functional and decorative baskets. The beautifully

    crafted baskets are woven utilizing sustainable banana and ra a bres.

    The eclectic mix of colours and patterns re ect the vibrancy of the region and

    make each basket a graphic design statement. Uganda Crafts is commited to

    bettering the lives of women in rural communities in Uganda.

    Bangladesh is well known for growing a wide variety of natural bers. There are 9

    Bangladeshi companies in CBIs Export Coaching programme for sustainable home

    decoration. One participates at Maison&Objet the other 8 participate at Ambiente 2015.

    All work with materials from renewable sources: Palm leaf, sea grass, jute, water hyacinth,

    silk, date leaf and hemp. These versatile raw materials have many applications: As the

    basic material for baskets and rugs, as an accent in hand woven fabrics and as the basis

    for beautiful accessories. Each of the companies in this programme has managed to create

    its own signature style collection, marrying traditional skills with contemporary in uences.

    Prokritee is a fair trade certi ed manufacturer and exporter of handmade home

    decoration and fashion accessories. The organization focuses on creating

    employment for rural women and is committed to developing products thatextend the cultural heritage of Bangladesh. Prokritee manages ten handicraft

    production units that all have their own specialization. The skilled artisans of

    Prokritee offer a broad variety of products, ranging from fashion (textile, bags

    and jewelry) to household items (baskets, tablemats, lampshades, cushion

    covers).

    Corr-The Jute Works

    CORR The Juteworks has been manufacturing and exporting handmade

    products for the last 40 years. The company is a pioneer member of World Fair

    Trade Organization (WFTO) and aims to ensure Trade - not aid through its work.

    In this way CORR works with more than 4000 artisans through 162 producer

    groups. With its in-house design department CJW develops its own products on

    a seasonal basis and is also experienced in the development and execution of

    custom-made designs. Though traditionally there has been a strong emphasis

    on the use of jute, CJW also uses other materials such as silk, sea grass, bam-

    boo, cane and recycled materials.

    Tarango designs, produces and exports a variety of handmade products such

    as baskets, bags, rugs and seasonal decorations. All raw materials come from

    renewable sources: Seagrass, mela, jute, water hyacinth and recycled materials

    like cement- and ricebags and waste fabrics. The company has been fair trade

    certi ed by WFTO and aims to improve the socio economic condition of the

    rural women it works with. Tarango works with more than 12.000 women all

    over Bangladesh. These skilled producers are trained by Tarango to make

    products with consistent quality and in line with international standards.

    Golden Jute Product

    Since 2008 Golden Jute excels in the development and production of

    innovatively designed and unique products. With its wide range of baskets

    the company ful lls the need for practical and ecofriendly storage solutions.Dedicated to the use of ecofriendly materials the company has developed

    a production method that uses jute only, but in a much more contemporary

    manner than traditional basketry. Golden Jute has a capacity of 20.000 sets of

    baskets per month and can double this volume if required.

    Intend BD Crafts uses a variety of natural bers to craft its beautiful range

    of baskets. Jute and Seagrass are the main raw materials, which can be

    combined with recycled plastic and accents in leather.The collection ranges from baskets in the natural colors of the bers to very

    colorful combinations with painted motifs. The company adheres to fair trade

    principles and keeps investing in the training and knowledge of its producers.

    Saidpur Enterprises has been in existence for more than 40 year and comprises

    two groups: Action Bag and Eastern Screen Printers. At Action Bag the women

    artisans make a variety of bags and baskets of jute and recycled fabrics(mainly sarees). These fabrics are beautifully stitched together with the

    traditional Kantha work; running stitches embroidered by hand. Eastern Screen

    Printers specializes in the design and production of greeting cards adorned

    with many different materials and decorations. Saidpur Enterprises has been

    fair trade certi ed by WFTO.

    VERVE Leatherware Ltd. has started its journey in 2012, designing and

    manufacturing bags and rugs. As our main raw materials we use leather

    and jute, from local Bangladeshi sources. In our designs we combinefunction and fashion with quality as our leading characteristic: Traditional

    craftsmanship, high quality materials and a perfect nish help to emphasize

    the sophisticated simplicity of our designs.

    Peerless Enterprise is a manufacturer and exporter of handmade stylish bags and

    leather products. The company started its journey in 2006 aiming for Poverty Re-

    duction (creating more employment) and Gender Equality (engaging more femaleworkers in this industry). Peerless has created its own niche in designing and pro-

    ducing bags that unite utility and style. The company has its own well-equipped

    setup for production and quality control where it is also possible to manufacture

    according to customers designs and speci cations. Currently Peerless Enterprise

    exports its products to Japan, The Netherlands and Belgium.

    EXPLORE INDONESIA

    CBIs Colourful Asia programme in Indonesia supports the Home Decoration and Home

    Textiles sector whilst focusing on greater sustainability and making a positive contribution

    to people, planet and pro t in the value chain particularly in wood and rattan. Within this

    programme, which is supported by the Dutch government, twelve Indonesian exporters will

    be showing their new collections at the Ambiente and Maison et Objet trade fairs, as well

    as at regional fairs in Asia. Products groups offered are: decorative accessories, in- and

    outdoor furniture, storage, table- and kitchenware, and even radios (!).

    Designer Randa Fahmy and Pakinam Ibrahim who do a joint project on metal and glass

    Green Craft operates primarily in the eld of handicrafts based on the speci c

    strengths of the northern mountainous region and the numerous villages

    along the Red River region. Currently, we are working with twelve ethnic

    minority production groups and eight village-based manufacturers. Being a

    social enterprise, 80 percent of our artisans are comprised of poor women

    and ethnic minorities. Greencraft focuses mainly on scarves, horn, textile and

    stone products.

    Kana specialises in handmade products from hemp. Since 2001 they have

    created unique cushions, bags, clutches, purses and other accessories in

    natural hemp, with modern designs and accents.
