  • Jerrys stands ready to launch you intomore than 15 miles of whitewater rapidsand placid pools.

While boating may not be for everyoneyou may just find your campsite, picnictable and fire ring to be as satisfying andrelaxing as the river!

Then again, some of those campsites areright along the shoreline anyway, whereyou can effortlessly cast a line for shad andtrout.

Bring your own tent or RV, or rent a lean-to for an authentically old-fashioned way towake up to a spectacular sunrise.

Got a large group spending the night?Jerrys not only offers a suitably sizedcamping area but bathhouses, pavilionsand plenty of room for outdoor games.

Of course, this isnt the only great spot tovisit the cute hamlet of Barryville is justfive miles upriver, while Bethel WoodsCenter for the Arts and the city of PortJervis are less than half-hours drive away.

Come see the natural beauty the sun, moon and stars have to offer!

hey call this place Gods country, and you can see why.

Verdant green mountains gentlyslope down to the winding Delaware

River, whose crystal ripples lap against an-cient boulders and sandy beaches.

Kids squeals of laughter mix with the irre-sistible smell of fresh barbecue, which waftsacross the mossy, moist stones that guidedthe course of the Delaware & Hudson Canalfor nearly a century.

Out on the river, swimmers wave to passingrafts, kayaks and canoes, then perch on sun-bathing rocks eroded by the water to a per-fectly smooth edge.

The summers breeze travels across thewater to the lean-tos, tents and RVs wherefamilies are cooking, playing and havingthose real conversations you thought werelost forever.

All this comprises Jerrys Three River Camp-ground, and it is paradise.

Its a place where heaven exists on earth, visitors often tell Pete Lovelace, who runs thepopular destination his parents, Jerry andElizabeth, launched nearly 50 years ago.

Petes family certainly feels that way, havingfirst settled in the Upper Delaware regionwhen logs were being rafted downriver toTrenton and Philadelphia in the 19th century.

These days, the rafting is done purely forpleasure, and both individuals and groups arewelcome at Jerrys.

For three generations, safety has been thetop priority: all boaters must be at least 7years old and know how to swim. Jerryswell-trained crew are happy to pass on allthat theyve learned paddling along theDelaware and can assist you on a leisurely,eight-mile trek you wont forget.

  • T he photo album sitting onthe living room tableshows a dilapidated shack, its roof sagging and overshadowed by witheredpine trees.

This cant be the same gorgeous little cottagewhere youre sitting with owner Tina Spangler, but she affirms it is. And its once again theshow house LuxtonLakes developers envi-sioned.

This was the centerof the community and it was the tiniesthouse, Tina relates of480 square feet of vin-tage 1950s space.

She should know she produced a short filmabout the former Luxton Lake Community, adevelopment built specifically for African Amer-icans in an era when they were first able to af-ford homes in the country but still facedsegregation at many destinations.

The community swelled in the middle of the20th century, till state-mandated dam repairsproved unaffordable, dooming the dam, thecommunity and Luxton Lake itself, which re-verted to the longtime course of the Ten MileRiver.

The 21st century, however, hasseen a resurgence of interest in theupper Delaware River valley, and

this quiet, shaded spot east of Narrowsburg, NYis once again a destination.

Tina and her family are full-time residents, liv-ing in one of the original homes built for thedevelopment. She bought the adjacent property

from a descendant of acharter family in thatdevelopment, initiallywith the intent to turnit into a guesthouse forrelatives and friends.

Out went the over-grown vegetation. Up

went a new roof. And in came fresh coats ofpaint and vintage furnishings.

Just as I finished, Tina says, my kids camealong, and AirBnB came on the scene.

She rented it out when family wasnt stayingthere, and the cutest little house in Narrows-burg became an overnight hit.

The original floorplan remains, with wallsonly slightly reconfigured to accommodate anairy, cathedral-ceilinged living room andkitchen, a cozy bathroom with clawfoot tub,and two bedrooms that can sleep up to four.

    Cute!

Thats also where youll find the CannedHam, so named because the vintage 1962 alu-minum camper resemblesthose supermarket hams Mombrought home for dinner. Thisone happens to be where Tinafirst stayed before she boughther house next door. Threeadults (or two grownups andtwo kids) can bunk here, eitherwith or separate from theguests in the bungalow up thehill. Theres no running waterin the camper, but a propanestove is included and as ofthis spring, there is plenty ofelectricity, courtesy of a singlesolar panel!

This is roughing it, but in acute trailer, Tina laughs.

Just across the street is a pic-nic pavilion and swing set withbarbecues, or you can stay
