Academic Grid Policy
South Mansfield College believes that every individual has the
capacity to learn and achieve his/her maximum potential. It is
our utmost goal therefore to help our students meet the
standards in all subjects. Moreover, achievement becomes
more concrete when there is a closer collaboration between
parents and the school in ensuring that the set standards are
met to move to the next level of learning.
In this connection, please go through this academic policy for
your quick reference especially when discussing the academic
standing of your child. These guidelines determine the
eligibility of your child to be promoted to the next level.
The following Academic Policies shall compose the school’s
promotion criteria at the end of AY 2019-2020:
1. Final Grades of LA (Low Average – 75%-79%) and
Incomplete (INC) in the core and non-core subjects are to
be cleared during the Extended Academic Year (EAY)
classes (for graduating students only). The EAY serves as
intervention to close learning gaps.
2. Final Grades of P (Poor – 70%-74%) and LA (Low
Average – 75%-79%) in the core and non-core subjects of
the current year and those of the previous years (Back
Subjects) are subject to remediation during the summer.
Only a maximum of two (2) core subjects can be cleared
during the summer classes.
3. A student who incurs a total number of three (3) units or
more in the subjects marked with a P (Poor – 70%-
74%) will be given the option to be retained in the same
level or to transfer to another school.

Catch Your Child Doing Well
The best way to motivate a child to develop good behavior is to reinforce the
good actions we want to see. Praising positive behavior of children tend to
strengthen their good behavior pattern.
1. Be specific in praising your children. Don’t just say, “You were good
today.” Find specific incidents that define good behavior like, “You
played nicely with your sister and took turns.” Defining good behavior
helps them understand the goal.
2. Offer occasional rewards. There is a difference between reward and
bribery. Reward is offered after the good deed is completed while
bribery occurs before the act.
3. Model a happy, healthy adult for your children. Parents can go far in
helping their children succeed by modeling what it means to have a
fulfilling life. Ensure that you experience both external and internal
achievements like having supportive relationships, and enjoying the
journey of your life.
4. Boost your children’s self-esteem with opportunities to contribute.
Far too many parents are using “hand-out parenting” in which they do
and give everything to their children. When a child grows up believing
they are the center of the universe, they develop a false sense of
confidence that can lead to future disappointments. The best thing a
parent can do is to help each child feel worthy by giving them
responsibilities and chores around the house.
