Job Summary (one or two paragraphs may suffice):
Hemodialysis Staff nurses have standards to follow prior to being assigned in the unit. To be hired in the job, he/she must be a Registered Nurse with valid and updated Philippine Regulation Commission (PRC) license and Association of Nursing Service Administrators of the Philippines (ANSAP) Intravenous therapy card, he/she must be a Certified Renal Nurse with valid and updated license, he/she must have a training in Hemodialysis, he/she must be a Member of Renal Nurses Association of the Philippines (RENAP).
Nurses in the Dialysic Clinic do specialized care to the patients. They prime bloodlines and dialyzers, prepare the machine, cannulate atriovenous fistula and grafts, start intajugular and permanent catheter access sites, terminate machine and remove cannula. The following recapitulates the description that is expected of his/her job:
1. Observes takes, records and reports symptoms and conditions of patients and administers medications as well as notes reactions, sets up treatment trays, prepares instruments and other equipment.
2. Assists physicians in the treatment, administers highly specialized therapy with complicated equipment and maintains records reflecting condition
3. Assists in the patients’ education and rehabilitation including promotion of physical and mental health and in research related to the improvement of care.
4. Performs other related duties as maybe assigned from time to time.
Detailed duties and Responsibilities:
o A. Assesses patients before the procedure.e.g. weight, vital signs, signs of congestion.
o B. Prepares the dialysis machines and dialyzers. Does the priming of the dialyzers.
o C. Explains hemodialysis procedure, and secures consent.o D.Performs proper cannulation (AV Fistula) and observes aseptic techniques
during the procedure.o E. Checks good patency of access.

o F. Starts hemodialysis treatment to patients with femoral, intrajugular catheters and permacath observing sterile technique.
o G. Monitors the vital signs during the hemodialysis and observes for complications.
o H. Gives due medications.o I. Extracts blood specimen for laboratory examinations e.g. CBC, blood chem.o J. Carries out doctor's order.o K. Terminates the dialysis treatment after the procedure.o L. Does proper documentation of care.o M. Provides clean and therapeutic environment.o N. Implements hospital policies, rules, and regulations.o O. Attends meetings, conferences and other staff development programs.
