This Week’s Teen Testimony

For a while now I’ve been struggling with my identity and trying to figure out who I am. During adoration at the LTLC conference, I was singing along to a song which words struck me. The song goes, “You’re a good good father. It’s who you are, who you are, and I’m loved by you, and it is who I am, who I am.” (Good Good Father, Housefires II) After singing those words, I realized that I am the Daughter of Christ and nothing can ever change that or take that away from me. I felt that God was speaking that to me through those words and it immediately gave me peace with accepting myself. Kate, LTLC 2015

STEWARDSHIP: “The hand of the Lord feeds us,” says the psalmist; “he answers all our needs.” Both Elisha’s servant in the first reading and the disciples in the Gospel story who witnessed the feeding of the five thousand saw this happen and knew it to be true.

TO OUR GUESTS We hope that God will grant you peace and rest while you are under our roof today.

May this church be your “second” home.

May those you love be near you in thought and prayer.

Even though we may not get to know you, We pray that you will be comfortable and happy as if you were in your own church home.

May whatever need brought you our way find a hearing by God.

When you leave, may your journey be safe.

We pray you God’s peace.

STEPHEN MINISTRY

When there is a will there is a way to be an angel for our parish. Please remember our endowment in your will. Your lawyer can add a simple inexpensive amendment, a codicil, to your existing will. Please contact Frank Oppold—290-1163.

Stephen Ministry is based on the idea that all Christians are ministers; it is a way for St. Cecilia parishioners who have the gifts for CARING...to use those gifts to bring Christ's love to people in need. Stephen Ministers go through 50 hours of training to provide high quality, confidential, Christian care to individuals facing life challenges or difficulties. Stephen Ministers are each assigned a care receiver and meet with that person for about one hour a week, with the relationship lasting as long as the care receiver needs it. Are you being called to be a Stephen Minister?

STEWARDSHIP MOMENT

Scrip Tidbits! We will continue selling SCRIP after Masses on a monthly basis during the summer months. Summer SCRIP selling schedule: August 1/2.

We are gearing up for an awesome 2015-2016 school year! I look forward to the start of the upcoming year. Before you know it, Aug. 24 will be here and school will be underway.

Our starting time will remain at 8:25AM this year and our dismissal times are 3:20PM on Mon., Tues., Thurs. & Fri. and at 2:15PM on Wed. as in the past.

We want to welcome you to 'come-and-go' at our Open House Night on Thur., Aug. 20 from 5-7PM. This will be a time for your family to stop and meet your child(ren)'s teacher, find your locker, and drop off school supplies. There will be other stations throughout the building as well; band instrument try outs (grades 4 & 5) in the multi-purpose room, school uniform sale and registration/fee assistance in the hallways.

We've had a few changes this year, so let me introduce you to our new staff:

Ms. Sally Dubois is our new Physical Education teacher. She brings to St. Cecilia School experiences working with students for Heartland AEA and consulting with the AEA and the programming for adaptive physical education programs. Many of the students will recognize her as she has served as a substitute in our building. Ms. Melissa Bowker will serve as a part-time cook for our lunch program. Her past experience is pastry chef at The Café and she has her own at home pastry business. Her normal days will be Thur. & Fri. Every family should have received a mailing which included our Welcome Back letter from Mr. Rowlands & your PowerSchool eRegistration instructions. Please make the eRegistration a priority and follow the instructions on the letter if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you.

The story of the multiplication of the loaves and the fishes is a familiar one, and has many lessons, not least of which is how our willingness to share who we are and what we have - exercising good stewardship - releases God’s power and bountifulness on the world and its people. Do we realize that there is enough for all if we are willing to share? Are we aware that God is at work when we share our time, our money and our other resources in His name?

Q. July 26 is the feast of Joachim and Anna. Who are they and what do we know about them?

A. Joachim and Anna are the parents of Mary, the mother of Jesus, yet there is absolutely no biblical reference to them whatsoev-er. So where do we get their names, and what is their story?

Their names are found in an apocryphal (hidden) gospel known as "The Infancy Gospel of James." Apocryphal, or hidden gospels, consist of accounts of Jesus' life that were ultimately not accepted as inspired works, and thus were not included in the Bible. Howev-er, they sometimes captured the Christian imagination, spilling into the devotional dimension of the community.

James' infancy gospel begins with the parents of Mary and their desire for a child. In their prayer and petitions to God, they are heard and given the blessings of a child, whom they named Mary. While we have no idea who Mary's parents really were, the fact that we celebrate the feast of Joachim and Anna indicates that the bond of family love is important in the Christian life.

Long before Grandparents' Day was established, the church had a feast that honored the presumed grandparents of Jesus. While their names are part of non-inspired apocryphal legends, the fact of the Savior's human ancestry is not. Christ, the incarnate Word, dwelt among us in the flesh in a human family. In honoring the grandparents of Jesus we really proclaim our faith in the Incarna-tion--God becoming human!

RCIA

The mission of the Church is to “Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.” (Mt.28:19) As members of the Church we are called to “make disciples.” How are we doing that? One important way in which we can help to “make disciples” is to share our faith with others. Sometimes we meet people who appear to be interested in the Catholic Church; but, we fail to ask/invite them to take a closer look. Let us be challenged by this “Mission of the Church” and invite someone we know to participate in the RCIA “Inquiry” phase of this process. And, in case you are not aware, the RCIA process receives interested persons at any time during the year. So, if you are an adult, or know of an adult or child over the age of 7 years interested in becoming a Catholic and celebrating the sacraments of Baptism or Confirmation and First Communion, please contact Jo Anne Dalhoff at [email protected] or call the parish office at 515-233-3092.
