Helping the Missionaries of Charity
The Catholic Community of
Billerica is helping St. Teresa
of Calcutta’s Missionaries of
Charity as they provide sup-
port for the elderly in need.
We will begin collecting the
gifts THIS weekend, Sep-
tember 28-29 through
October 5-6. Thank you in
advance for your generous donations!
With our new Mass
Schedule, you may find
yourself attending
Mass at a Billerica
Church other than
your home parish.
Your pre-printed envelopes already get routed to
your home parish. If you choose to donate cash,
you can use the color-coded envelopes found in
the pews to ensure your donation goes to your
home parish as well. We also encourage online
giving to make this process even easier for you.
Please contact the office manager of your home
St. Theresa Parish
75th Anniversary Committee Did you know that St. Theresa of Lisieux Parish will celebrate its 75th
Anniversary in September 2020? We would like to recognize this
milestone in a big way as we approach this special anniversary. We
are seeking parishioners with a passion for their Parish to participate
in a committee to set the direction for this celebration. If you are
interested, please reach out to Heather at 978-663-8816 or
Adult Confirmation Are you an adult who has received the Sacraments
of Baptism and Holy Communion, but has not yet
been Confirmed? If you would like to enter more
deeply into the Body of Christ, the Church, and
complete the grace of Baptism to bear witness to
the Catholic faith in word and deed, then Confir-
mation might be the next step in your spiritual
journey. If you are interested, please contact
Dustin at [email protected].
Permanent Diaconate Information and Inquiry Sessions If you are discerning God’s call to serve the Church as a minister of charity, word,
and sacrament as an ordained deacon in the Archdiocese of Boston, you and your wife (for
those who are married) are invited to take part in the upcoming inquirer sessions on Satur-day, October 5 at 9:00am at Sacred Hearts Church in Haverhill, MA. Please email
the Permanent Diaconate Office at [email protected] to register. To receive
information in advance, please contact Deacon Eric Peabody at 781-249-0842.
*The Diaconate Formation Program is four years in length and is open to single and married men who will be between the ages
of 35-65 at the time of ordination.
Novena in Honor of the Sacred Heart
All are invited to attend the
Novena in Honor of the Sacred
Heart held at St. Andrew
Church on Friday, Octo-ber 4 at 7:00pm. The even-
ing will begin with the rosary
followed by the Novena, Ex-
position of the Blessed Sacra-
ment and Benediction. What
a wonderful experience to
pray and rest before the Lord. Fellowship will fol-
low in Fr. Wilson Hall. Call Kathy at 978-663-
2533 with questions.

The Rich Man in today’s gospel never noticed Lazarus. Instead, he accepted
him as part of the landscape thinking it perfectly natural and inevitable that Laz-
arus should lie in pain and hunger while he lived luxuriously. The sin of the
Rich Man was that he looked on the world's suffering and need but felt no
compassion or pity in his heart. This parable challenges us to reflect on our
own complacency and reasons for ignoring the sufferings of others. Only with
Christ can we overcome such feelings and respond as his disciple!
Prayer Shawl Ministry Do you know a parishioner, friend or loved one who is sick, going
through a difficult time, experiencing a pregnancy, facing surgery, has
lost a loved one or is homebound? Our Prayer Shawl Ministry knits and crochets beautiful prayer shawls for
those who could benefit from the warmth of the shawl, along with the comfort of the prayers that were
said with each stitch! Shawls are blessed and available at your home Parish Offices.
Virtus Trainings Anyone working with chil-
dren and all parents are
invited to the training Pro-
tecting God’s Children. This
workshop is mandatory
for ALL religious educa-
tion and other volunteers
in Church Ministries who
have not taken it before.
This one-time training will
provide useful information
to protect our children and vulnerable adults by
equipping those trained to establish safe environ-
ments, raise awareness of the signs of abuse, and
what responsibilities church volunteers may have
legally as mandated reporters. You need only partici-
pate in this program one time.
The next training will be held on Sunday, Octo-
ber 6 from 2-4:30pm at St. Theresa Hall,
Room 7.To register for our training, please con-
tact Tony Carbrello at 978-667-3733 x445,
[email protected] or use the link
on our website (under Quick Links).
A special collection will be taken THIS weekend,
September 28-29, to support of relief efforts
for the Archdioceses of the Bahamas and the U.S.
that were ravaged by the destruction of Hurricane
Dorian. Thank you in advance for your generosity.
Checks can be made payable to your parish with
“Hurricane Dorian Relief” in the memo.
New and Gently-Used Religious Items Collection Do you have numerous religious items and don’t know what to do with them? The Cath-
olic Community of Billerica will be conducting “New Prayers for Old Beads”, a collec-
tion of rosary beads and other religious items such as Bibles, medals, prayer books, etc. Receptacles marked “New or Gently-Used Religious Items Collection” will be found at the en-
trances of all three churches for you to place your items in for pickup. We will be collect-
ing up until October 20. Email Adrienne at [email protected] with any questions.
“Thank you for opening the door of prayer to others.”
SAINT VINCENT DE PAUL
The weekend of October 5 and 6 will be our
monthly food drive at all three parishes sponsored
by Saint Vincent de Paul. All non-perishable food
items are welcome. We are in particular need of:
coffee, tea, cocoa, pancake mix, syrup, cereal, fruit,
corn, school sized snacks, paper goods and cleaning
products. Thank you so much for your continued generosity to this important ministry.

Friendly Reminder Please remember to keep the first
pew in ALL three parishes available
for people who may have mobility is-
sues. We appreciate your kindness
and consideration in ensuring that it is
an easy experience for all to receive Communion.
Congratulations and God’s many blessings to the
families of Abigail Harlow Hanlon, Cecilia
Kathryn Argyropoulos, Greyson Gilbert
Ynostroza, Henry Parker Klimm, Hannah
Elizabeth Maher who were initiated into God’s
family this past month at St. Theresa. We wish for
them a lifetime of learning about God’s great and
merciful love.

and the Divine Mercy Chaplet on Sunday, October 13 at 3:00pm. What
a wonderful way to come together as a community, along with other com-
munities throughout the USA, to pray for our nation, our state and our
town! Hope to see everyone there!
Saint Theresa Women’s Club presents their Harvest Fair on Sat-
urday, October 19 from 9am-3pm in the Parish Hall. Come and
see our 36 crafty vendors; look for hidden treasures at our white ele-

the recent generous donation of tables and chairs for the Parish Hall.
French Mass Honoring the North American Martyrs
In the 1640s, eight French Jesuits were working in
Canada and what we now know as New York State to bring the good news of Christ to the native peo-
ples living there. They were welcomed by some,
attacked by others, and ultimately tortured and
killed in service to their mission. On Saturday,
October 19, their feast will be observed at St.
Andrew Church with a 10:00am
Mass celebrated in French by Rev. Kenneth Hea-
ley, SM with a homily delivered in French by Dea-
con Michael Charchaflian. Hymns and liturgical mu-
sic in French and Latin will be sung by St. Andrew
Parish and Franco-American singers from Lowell
under the direction of St. Andrew music director
John Donovan. Afterwards Franco-American Com-
mittee scholarships will be awarded to two students
studying French and/or French culture and history
in the current school semester. For more details,
email Kevin Roy at [email protected].

Healthier Priests. Stronger Communities.
Funds from this special collection are managed by the Clergy Health and Retirement Trust – an independently managed trust with a majority lay board of trustees. The funds are used for the sole benefit of active and senior priests in good standing.
The strength and vibrancy of our communities depend largely on the welfare of our priests who tirelessly serve others from all walks of life.
Powerful examples of strength in community are visible across 144 cities and towns of the Archdiocese of Boston. The roots of these communities can be traced back to the work of our priests.
Pine Street Inn: A Boston priest was one of the original founders of Pine Street Inn, which provides shelter and emergency services for nearly 2,000 homeless men and women in the Boston area every day.
Cor Unum: Started by a Lawrence pastor, Cor Unum (“One Heart”) food pantry serves more than 250,000 meals annually to poverty-stricken families in Lawrence.
Addiction Support for Families: A Boston priest’s expertise in addiction and recovery has been instrumental for organizations helping families and individuals in the grips of addiction.
Rostro de Cristo: Efforts to help the poor on the margins of Ecuador’s largest city is hard work, except for those who have been inspired by a Boston priest who started Rostro de Cristo, an organization based in Boston that lives the Gospel and serves the poor.
It’s simple: healthier priests mean stronger communities. Please support clergytrust.org
