MSSION ~ We are a welcoming Catholic community, making God visible through the sacraments, faith formation and service.
REPENT AND BELIEVE IN THE GOSPEL. Lent is the time of year we devote to scrutinizing our lives in the light of our baptism into the death and resurrection of Jesus. Today’s readings are a nice shorthand catechism of what our baptized lives mean. As Noah passed through the waters of the flood to a covenant with God, so did we enter into a covenant, a promised relationship with God through our baptism. Peter’s letter gives an explicit explanation of what our baptism means: it is an appeal
we make to God for a clear conscience. How do we obtain this clear conscience? The words proclaimed by Jesus immediately following his temptation show us the way: “Repent, and believe in the gospel” (Mark 1:15). It might be a good spiritual exercise to keep these readings before us throughout the entire season of Lent, a means to help us return to a life lived by our baptismal promises.
Protecting Our Children ~ Our Lady of the Lake and the Diocese of Charleston are committed to the protection of children. The following numbers are provided for your information: Diocesan Victim Assistance Minister: 800.921.8122; Diocesan Office of
Child Protection Services: 843.853. 2130, ext. 209.

Pope Francis declared this year the Year of St Joseph. What do you know about St Joseph, husband to Mary? He spoke no words in sacred scripture. Why is this silent saint, the patron saint of the Church, also called the Terror of Demons? Consider one of these two opportunities to read the
book, Consecration to St Joseph by Fr. Donald Calloway and participate in a consecration to St Joseph when you’ve finished. The first will be in Lent, starting Feb 15 and completing on Mar 19 Feast of St. Joseph. The second in Easter season starting March 30th and ending on May 1st for the Feast of St Joseph the Worker. Cost of the book is $10 and available by contacting Sharon Hale at 402-873-8111 or [email protected]

We will keep the Sanctuary and altars decorated throughout the Easter Season which ends with the Solemnity of Pentecost, May 31st. Column Submi ed by Stewardship Council Sharing, tithing, giving, treasure. This new year, so full of hope!! But maybe you are still under-employed, and you just don’t have the money to donate right now. There is so many other ways that you can give, and none of them require a checkbook!
Do you have unexpired canned goods in your cupboard, something you bought and probably won’t use? Why not put it in the bins in Vollkommer Bell Tower for We Care! How about a
hat or gloves you likely won’t wear again. Consider placing it in the Catholic Charities drawer in Vollkommer Bell Tower. Got time on your hands? Consider joining the Friendly Voices, a parishioner outreach ministry, calling fellow parishioners who are lonely and need a telephone chat. Call the parish office for further information.
Community services also look for volunteers of their time, such as We Care, animal rescue services, Catholic Charities, Meals on Wheels, Adopt-a-Highway and Clean of Heart. There are many ways to give that do not need to be monetary. If you are looking for ideas, pick up a Ministry Information booklet to see how you might serve! Be guided by what Jesus taught us, “whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me.” Mt 25
If there are angels in heaven, they are probably female and male nurses. (President Joe Biden, 1-19-2021) Thank you to all of our nurses, physicians, first responders, janitorial and custodial staff, caregivers, all those working to keep us safe during the pandemic. This situation would be so much worse without you!
The beginning of a prayer is silence. If we really want to pray, we must first learn to listen, for in the silence of the heart God speaks. And to be able to see that silence, to be able to hear God we need a clean heart; for a clean heart can see God, can hear God, can listen to God; and then only from the fullness of our heart, can we speak to God. But we cannot speak unless we have listened, unless we have made that connection with God in the silence of our heart. Saint Teresa of Calcutta
Have you signed up to be a part of the Parish Directory? Our last Directory was in 2014, and with new technology, we will be able to keep the 2021 Directory current and up-to-date. You can send us a family photo you already have, or sit with our own Hope Jeffcoat for a professional grade photo. We are very excited to be able to bring this to the parish!! Contact Christine Scaplen by phone 978-758-9384 or [email protected]
I am not sure exactly what Heaven will be like, but I know that when we die and it comes time for God to judge us, He will not ask “How many good things have you done in your life?” rather He will ask “How much love did you put into what you did?” Saint Teresa of Calcutta
Flowers for the Altar The austerity of the Lenten Season is dictated not only by sorrow for sin, but also by the character of Lent as a time of waiting and anticipation for the coming of the Easter Celebration.
In keeping with this anticipation, there will be NO FLOWERS on the altar until Laetare (Rose) Sunday and Palm Sunday.
YOUR HELP IS NEEDED!! The 2021 Book to sign up for ALTAR FLOWERS can be found on the credenza in the Vollkommer Bell Tower. Sign up to commemorate a special occasion, as a memorial to a loved one's passing, or simply to help adorn the altar.
The Second Collection for February 27-28 is for Black and Indian Home Missions.
The List for the Second Collections for 2021 is posted on the Parish’s website, www.ollchapin.org.
YOU CONSIDER ONLINE GIVING?
Not surprisingly, our weekly collections have been impacted by this crisis. If you are receiving Father Dennis' Constant Contact emails, you know the details). Donating Online allows the church to operate with a more consistent revenue stream, and saves
time and money for those involved in processing bank deposits. It will save you time too! You can individually donate to "Special Envelope" offerings as well. Go to ollchapin.org/online-giving and click on "Choose Here to Give" image.

Stations of the Cross Our Lenten journey can be enriched in a multitude of ways. Find a daily devotional study to accompany you along the way. Rewatch “The Passion of Christ.” Attend OLL’s Stations of the Cross gathering every Friday evening. Watch and listen to selections, like this CD,
available to us through FORMED, that provide a fresh approach to our time-honored traditions. The Stations of the Cross is a devotion and reflection in which we walk alongside Jesus on His way to Calvary. By prayerfully participating in this meditation we are able to clearly see through His passion and death the depths of God's love for mankind and the price He paid for our salvation. This presentation includes powerful meditations by Dr. Ronald Thomas, Assistant Professor of Theology at Belmont Abbey College, with prayer responses by students from the college.
