DEFINITION OF CATHARSIS

Catharsis is the purification and purgation of emotions – especially Pity and Fear through different Art

"Aristotelian" concept that a tragic play is an imitation of reality with a unified plot and a universal theme which establishes an identification of the audience with the hero and produces a catharsis of the spectator's emotions. (See Aristotle, under tragedy and plot)

General meaning of Catharsis: Release of the pent-up emotions by watching an exciting movie or listening to good music or by reading any good work of Literature
