CATHETERIZATION LABORATORY

• Cath lab is an examination room • Used to visualize the arteries and treat any

stenosis or abnormality found.


CATH LAB CONSIST OF

• Fluoroscopy• Patient Couch• Image intensifier• viewing monitors• Real time ECG, Blood pressure, Oxygen Saturation

measurements• Injector Pump • Catheters• Angioplasty balloons• Defibrillator


FLUROSCOPY

• it is used to study of moving body structures• A continuous X-ray beam is passed through the body • they are captured by a device called an image

intensifier and converted into light• The light beam is transmitted to a TV camera and

displayed on a video monitor.


IMAGE INTENSIFIER

• It is an imaging component which converts x-rays into a visible image

• three main components – Photocathode– Microchannel Plate (MCP) – phosphor screen


CATHETER

• a flexible tube inserted through a narrow opening into the body


ANGIOPLASTY

• surgical repair or unblocking of a blood vessel• is a procedure used to open narrow or

blocked arteries. • The procedure restores blood flow to

the heart muscle
