St. John Jamboree Next Sunday!

September 24th, 11:00- 3:00pm

Saint John the Beloved is having a party; It’ll be more fun than Laurel and Hardy It starts at eleven so don’t dare be tardy, if you miss this event you will be naughty

It’s our parish gathering and Jamboree, there’s no excuse not to come, admission is free. There’ll be refreshments, including ice tea, we want everyone there don’t you see

There’ll be music to enjoy and dogs with the sides, and good weather too, if the Lord provides. So let’s pray hard that we’ll not be denied, the presence of the Son and the sun in the sky

We’ll share games and activities with lots of fellowship, the committee’s worked hard to see we’re equipped. Everything’s been covered, nothing was skipped, but flasks aren’t allowed so you can’t take a nip!

Monsignor Chet will serve as our host, we love him a lot, so he we will not roast. Instead we’ll raise our cups and offer a toast, and pray in thanksgiving to the Trinity the most

Father Dux will be there with incense in tow, and Father Spencer of course, two priests in a row. Deacons Jim, Paul, and Harve the three of us bros, will all be on hand because its service we owe

So mark your calendars with a big fat sign, with encouragement I implore and exhort you to incline. Because this parish event will be the top of the line, but it’ll only be a success because of your presence and mine

~ Deacon Harve Becker

CATECHETICAL SUNDAY

E ach year, the Catholic Church in the United States designates the third Sunday in September as “Catechetical Sun-day”– a day on which to celebrate and pray for the Church’s mission to teach the Gospel to all people.

Catechist are those who are responding to a call to share the gift of faith with others. They are called to serve through teaching, witness, prayer, service and building community. We want to pray for the following people who are going to serve as Catechists in our Faith Formation Program K-8th Grades this year. We thank God that they said YES to this wonderful ministry of Passing on the Faith to the Next Generation. Bible Study Starts Soon When we study the Bible - both the Old and the New Testament we discover that God's most funda-mental attribute is mercy. The God revealed in Scriptures suffers with his creation and has a heart for the poor and lost. Again and again, God demonstrates faithful love for the world and calls people to a joyful and abundant life. In this study, Stephen J. Binz helps individuals and groups open the door to the heart of Scripture - the heart of Di-vine Mercy. Our study starts on September 29th at 10:00 AM or at 7:00 PM in Madden Hall and lasts for seven weeks. Cost is $13.00. For information, or to register, please contact Sr. Carol Gnau:

Volunteers Needed St. John the Beloved has been desig-nated as a general Public Feeding Site by the Dorchester Emergency Man-agement Division. Roger Dangerfield is the Deputy Director of the Dorches-

ter EMD. As such we are responsible for providing two meals per day to any member of the general public who seeks a meal in times of disaster. At this location, the meals will be carry out only. Plastic ware and containers will be provided. The food will come from a church in Harleyville under the direc-tion of the Red Cross. Our meal serving times will be 11:00am-1:00pm and 4:00-6:00pm. Meals will come in Cambros and when we finish serving we are asked to simply clean them and the Red Cross will pick them up the next day/meal. Activation is anticipated to begin post-disaster: 3-5 days. When Commence operation is given to us, we will need several people to serve a few hours before and dur-ing the meals. If you are going to stay in the area following a disaster and are not needed by your family, please contact Sr. Carol at [email protected] or 843-873-0631.

Scripture Reflection

Although we may not immediately perceive them, Holy Scripture is filled with references to steward-ship and what it means. Today’s Gospel from St. Luke that includes the Parable of the Dishonest Stew-ard is more pointed and direct than many of those references.

Retired Bishop Robert Morneau — who was instru-mental in the development of the United States Bish-ops’ pastoral letter, Stewardship: A Disciple’s Re-sponse, and has been a popular presenter on stew-ardship for decades — is fond of saying that on Judg-ment Day, the Lord will only ask us one question, “What have you done with the garden I have given you?” In other words, we are all gifted, perhaps in different ways, but whatever gifts we receive might be considered our garden from God. We must ac-count for those gifts.

The whole concept of stewardship is clear in today’s parable. The steward is the manager (not the owner) of the master’s gifts. God is, of course, the manager, and we are the stewards who are charged with the responsibility of overseeing our gifts of time, talent, treasure and perhaps even influence. Do we use those gifts wisely and with justice?

That is the point we must get from this Gospel. Our Holy Father Pope Francis understood the significance of being a steward when he recently said, “In the end, everything has been entrusted to our protec-tion, and all of us are responsible for it. Be protectors of God’s gifts.” As the Lord says to the steward in today’s Gospel, “The person who is trustworthy in very small matters is also trustworthy in great ones.”

The Dishonest Manager
