Bar can now be supplied in three grades; B500A, B500B and B500C all conforming to BS4449; 2005.Long length bars up to 18m can be obtained subject to availability.Note - In practice there might be physical restrictions on certain shape codes for particular bar diameters, especially where the shape has overlapping sections, for example s/c 33. Consideration shall be given tousing alternative detailing arrangements which are SAFER to manufacture E.G two s/c 13’s instead of s/c 33.

ª The minimum end projections for smaller bars is governed by the practicalities of bending bars.NOTE 1 The Length equations for shape codes 14, 15, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 34, 35, 36 and 46 are

approximate and where the bend angle is greater than 45°, the length should be calculated more accurately allowing for the difference between the specified overall dimensions and the true lengthmeasured along the central axis of the bar. When the bending angles approach 90°, it is prefarable to specify shape code 99 with a fully dimensioned sketch.

NOTE 2 Five bends or more might be impractical within permitted tolerances.NOTE 3 For shapes with straight and curved lengths (e.g shape codes 12, 13, 22, 33 and 47) the largest

practical mandrel size for the production of a continuous curve is 400mm. See also Clause 10.NOTE 4 Stock lengths are available in a limited number of lengths (e.g 6m, 12m). Dimension A for shape

code 01 should be regarded as indicative and used for the purpose of calculating total length. Actual delivery lengths should be by agreement with the supplier.

BAR & FABRIC REINFORCEMENTS

Fabric is manufactured to BS4483, from cold reduced wire which complies with BS4482. Ribbed wire classified as Type 2 and recognised in BS8110 as having improved bond characteristics, isavailable as standard material. Each wire intersection is resistance welded using electronicallycontrolled techniques.• Standard Sheets are 4.8 x 2.4m. (Also available 3.6 x 2.0m merchant size sheets - see below).• Standard and merchant size sheets are available ex stock.• When ordering non-standard sheets, the main wire length should be the first dimension stated.

We can supply Fabric Radius or Bent in accordance with BS8666/BS4466. Either in standardsheets or special cut to size sheets. When specifying, shapes must relate to BS8666/BS4466 shape codes, or a fully dimensionedsketch indicating the direction of bending relating to transverse or longitudinal wires.

Cut & Bent Fabric

For all bent fabric reinforcement.

The bending dimensions mustavoid welded transverse wiresoccurring within four diameters ofthe start of a bend.

Threaded CouplersLENTON products provide a complete line of full tension and compressionmechanical splices. LENTON couplers are the slimmest couplers on themarket for tension and compression. The unique LENTON self-aligning taper-threaded design provides ease ofinstallation, consistent performance and durability. A completed LENTON splice exceeds the requirements of International Codes including AC1318;AS3600; BS8110; DIN1045; MS146 codes for full tension splices. LENTON is CARES approvedunder number TA1C-5003 according BS codes and BNFL for TENSION and COMPRESSION.

Type A12 - LENTON standard coupler - most widely used tosplice bars. Designed to splice the same diameter bars whereone bar can be rotated. Transition couplers for different barsizes are available as well.Type P13/Type P14 LENTON Position couplers - Designed toquickly splice two curved, bent or straight bars when neither barcan be rotated. The P13 is used when the ongoing bar isrestricted in its axial direction. Both couplers can be supplied intwo pieces for application against formwork. The female threadis corrosion protected and is provided with a plastic screw-incap.Also available LENTON Bold Couplers, LENTON Weldablecouplers and LENTON TERMINATOR(bar anchorages).

All couplers can be supplied in stainless steel AISI 303 or electrolytic galvanized couplers.

Reinforcement continuity system for fast track construction

IntroductionThe concept of reinforcement continuity strip has been in widespreaduse throughout Europe for over 20 years, and repeatedly demonstratesitself to be a simple, time-saving and cost-effective method ofmaintaining reinforcement continuity across construction joints inconcrete. The system comprises special pre-bent reinforcement housed in apurpose-designed carrier casing - all of which is fabricated off-site in afactory controlled environment. On site, the entire unit is cast into the frontface of the wall. After the formwork isstruck, the lid is removed to reveal theconnection legs (or starter bars) layinginside the casing. These legs are bent outby the contractor, ready for lapping themain reinforcement of the consequentpour. The casing remains embedded in the wall, providing a rebate into which the concreteof the adjoining member is poured, andeliminates the need for traditionalpreparation (i.e. scabbling) at the joint.

ApplicationsQuite simply, any construction joint in concrete has the potential to beformed by this method. Normal applications include:• walls • corbels• floor slabs • pile caps• staircase landings • underpinning• stair flights • gutters & chambers• brick support nibs • balconies

Quality AssuranceKwikastrip is the only continuity system of its type to be manufacturedunder a CARES* approved quality system to BS EN ISO 9002:1994.*The UK Certification Authority for Reinforcing Steels.Benefits• Simplifies formwork design - bypass those construction joints!• Accelerates pour schedules - suits today’s fast track build methods• Easy to use - an answer to skills shortages of ‘chippies’ and steel fixers• No formwork damage or wastage - no drilled holes in shutters / no

wasted stop ends• Enables ‘systems formwork’ to be used - e.g. steel forms / climbing

and slip forms• Starter bars remain protected and clean - they’re inside the casing

until needed!• No projecting bars - better working access in confined areas and

improved site safety• Improves shear connection - provides additional formed joint rebate
