About the Book: This book having title “Standardization Techniques of Herbal Medicines” written with an intention to benefit the Diploma, UG and PG students. It seemed to us appropriate in this to also take into consideration those crude substances of the vegetable kingdom possessing an organic structure which receive technical application. On the other hand, zoology has now been but incidentally considered, for the reason that pharmacognosy has to treat of only a very limited number of animal substances. In the morphological portion, which has experienced a complete transformation, we have endeavored to give a brief sketch of the most important phenomena, whereby the technical expressions in present use have received explanation. Same applies to the selection of examples from anatomy and morphology. Pharmacognostic study the active and other constituents of drugs, such as may be obtained in crystalline form from sections, from extractions of small quantities of powders, or from a few drops of an extracted solution as obtained in assay work. While there are a number of books treating of micro-chemistry, yet the treatment of the microscopic crystals in these is of a general character. The work, here presented will doubtless at once indicate the aim and the scope of the science of pharmacognosy, and clearly demonstrate its intimate connection on every hand with chemical, botanical, macroscopical and microscopical science, as also the impulse afforded for the further investigation of points of historic interest and a more extended knowledge of the geographical or climatic and commercial relations of vegetable products in their varied applications, either as medicinal remedies, as food, or in the arts.

About the Book: Approach to the experimental pharmacology has been changed in past few years. It is due to the advancement in learning through computer based experimentations. Although it is effective, less expensive and save lives of thousand of experimental animals, understanding and implementation of such kind of knowledge for further study or in industries had certain limitations. Hence, there is a modify in the usual approach of gaining of knowledge, practical skills and developing attitudes in students. A need has, therefore, been felt for a manual that documents why and how a practical should be conducted. This book has fulfilled the need and, in fact, gone beyond merely fulfilling the need. The book has been written keeping in mind the preferred standard shift in the practical curriculum for undergraduate medical students. The chapters in the book have been prepared in sections like in-vivo pharmacology and ex-vivo pharmacology mainly for clarity and convenience. The book covers all the possible exercises in pharmacology that can be carried out by most institutions, with minimal resources. A useful feature of this book is the sufficient use of diagram, which will help not only the trainee teachers but also the students to understand the mechanism. Each chapter is neatly presented with concision and precision. The objectives of learning are clearly defined, although they could well have been stated at the beginning of the chapter. The clear and relevant illustrations can substitute the lack of materials, which may be the case at some centers. The section on experimental pharmacology describes those experiments that are necessary for the student to understand the fundamental mechanisms of drug action. The author also emphasizes ethics in animal experimentation.
About the Book: Since ancient times, herbals have been the mainstay of folkloric medicines all around the world. High quality standards products are needed to allow the patient to make safe use of phytotherapeutic products. Standardization of herbal medicines helps develop a set of standards or intrinsic characteristics that carry an assurance of quality and reproducibility of herbal preparation. Specific standards are worked out by experimentation, which would lead to the process of stipulating an individuality exhibited by the particular herbal medicine. Hence standardization is a tool in the quality control process. The present book is a small step towards this goal. In this book, standardization and identification of the marker compounds in medicinal plants have been carried out using analytical techniques starting from basic and cost effective to highly sophisticated ones. Although, HPLC is considered more specific and better technique, TLC still remains a versatile and valuable analytical tool due to its high-throughput and cost-effectiveness for plant analysis. Several studies have indicated a poor quality control and batch to batch variations in the marketed traditional preparations thereby necessitating the use of these analytical tools for quality control. LC-MS, a technique that combines the physical separation capabilities of liquid chromatography with the mass analysis capabilities of mass spectrometry (MS) and is known for its high sensitivity, has also found extensive usage in fingerprinting of plant extracts, but has not been used much for the quality control purpose of traditional medicines or herbal products. This book includes quantitative analysis of markers in 20 plants with TLC, 43 plants with HPLC/UPLC, 29 plants with LC-MS and 8 plants using qNMR.

About the Book: This book 'A Manual in Chemistry' was written as the course developed and then became firmly established. The course, designed as the first year chemistry laboratory courses for scientists, physics, chemistry and life science majors as well as all engineering majors: strove to fulfill a number of requirements. Shiv Nadar University has a tie-in with Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, hence in addition to the AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education), and UGC (University Grants Commission), we have had to keep in mind the standards of ACS (American Chemical Society), a body that governs US college students. The experiments are by no means trivial and bench-top analysis that is often odorous, creates toxic gases and adds to environmental hazards have all given way to more sophisticated instrumental methods of analysis. SNU students graduate from the first year Chemistry laboratories capable of running a UV-ViS spectrometer in addition to an FT-IR spectrometer in addition to other non-spectral methods of analysis. The book contains safety instructions as well as how to segregate and deal with waste. Grading schemes are included so that the novice teacher may start teaching without too much worrying. This book will be an asset to every chemistry department as an excellent foundation for advanced organic syntheses, thermodynamics and chemical kinetics studies and other theoretical work too.
About the Book: Nowadays, the art of synthetic chemistry plays a pivotal role and involved in the multitude of chemical reactions for the formation of a number of products for our daily lifestyle. Conveniently, tremendous applications have been used based on the oxidations and reductions. Thus, the aesthetic and deep knowledge of conceptuality of oxidation as well as reduction required. To this context, the idea for this textbook was born out of my experience as a UG, PG student, and Research scholar as well as a teacher of chemistry during the coaching to the students of UG and PG streams. In views of several surveys carried out through research papers, books, technical articles, general reports etc. published in high repute academic societies, the present book describes a deep narration towards the reactions, especially oxidation and reduction and resolves the problems associated with typical reagents thereof, employed in a number of synthetic organic chemistry applications. The book presents a new exposure to a systematic treatment of the subject and entirely, correlates the students and teachers to understand the matter in a lucid way. The book is filled with exhaustive coverage of significant catalysts/ reagents employed for oxidation as well reduction in a number of substrates with illustrative examples during the course of various named reactions. About the Book: In this book, we have given the practical implementation and verification of the concepts used in very important stream of Electronics/Electrical Engineering mostly known by name Engineering Circuit analysis. The book has been divided into three major sections: (1) Evaluation of circuits based on renowned circuit laws and theorem, (2) Practical implementation of the concept related to Network functions. (3) Method of practical analysis of circuits in time domain and frequency domain. We have written the experimental procedure for the verification of many commonly used theorems, namely Thevenin's Theorem, Nortan's Theorem, Superposition Theorem, Maximum Power Transfer theorem and the Reciprocity theorems. For practical evaluation of these theorems we used very commonly used equipment easily available in electronics engineering laboratory. All the experiments are performed for low power DC supply. For introducing the concept related to the Network functions we designed the circuit and calculated various two-port parameters namely z-parameter, y-parameter, ABCD/chain, hybrid/Inverse Hybrid and conductance parameters for our designed circuits. We also designed the experiment for verifying the Network functions when connected in cascade, series and parallel. These experiments are also implemented for DC low power supply. For the analysis of circuits in time domain, we designed the experiments for first order and second order circuit and observation can be made for their transient and steady state behavior. For frequency domain analysis we designed the experiment based on Fourier series analysis.

About the Book: This book is about mathematical modeling of various transport phenomena processes related to chemical engineering mainly and it is also suitable for other engineering branches. This book provides the fundamentals of formulating the spatio-temporal governing equations such as Continuity equation, Navier-Stokes equation, convection-conduction-heat generation equation and convection-diffusion-reaction equation using a control volume method and appropriate constitutive relationship such as Newton's law of viscosity, Fourier's law of heat conduction and Fick's law of diffusion. Various properties of a fluid/medium such as density, viscosity, thermal conductivity, specific heat capacity figure in the resultant governing equations. Diffusivity concept is explained for a solute-solvent system. It is demonstrated how the non-dimensional numbers such as Reynolds number, Nusselt number, Prandtl Number, Sherwood number, Schmidt number are obtained through non-dimensionalizing the governing equations. It is followed by application of these equations to certain simple processes and obtaining analytical solutions to velocity, temperature and concentration profiles. The problems are treated as initial and boundary value problems (IBVP). Hence there is good amount of applied mathematics involved. Techniques such as separation of variables method and similarity variable transformation are introduced. This book motivates the reader for self learning by practicing engineers or scientists as well as a reference book for undergraduate and graduate courses.

About the Book: Indians learn the essential themes of social and cultural life within the bosom of the family. Women are legal citizens of the country but due to the lack of acceptance from the male dominant society there is a considerable deterioration in their status. Indian women suffered a lot as they were completely devoted inside the family, no share in parental property, lack in medical care, increased infant mortality rates and low priority to education which reduced their growth and deprived rights of equality with men. Women problems and challenges is world-wide phenomena. It is inevitable to create an environment where, women can make independent decisions. Education is the weapon to overcome these inequalities. To bring quick and effective change after independence, Indian Constitution ensured equality, dignity and protection from discrimination. In order to alter the attitude towards segregation of sexes, series of laws were enacted. Free and Compulsory education, Freedom to hold high offices, Political rights to franchise and contest in elections, Spouses sharing a common social life in cities are the recent trends. These positive situations diminish the stereotyped mindset of the society. Hence there is a need for empowering women in health care, nutrition, legal aspects, family welfare, and self-employment in the present scenario. This book is prepared to give an overall view about 'Women Life and Status' since Kruta Yuga to Kali Yuga and includes 12 chapters. The book is based upon the recent research outcomes and updated data and presented in a simple form without compromising the quality.

About the Book: Empowerment is a multi-dimensional social process that helps people gain control over their own lives. It is multi-dimensional since it is not an outcome of any one factor. It can be examined from a variety of perspectives ranging from sociological, psychological and financial to political. It is a process that fosters power in people, especially the marginalized for use in their own lives, their communities, and in their society by acting on issues that they define as important. The present book attempts to examine the phenomenon of women empowerment at the global level. It brings together a collection of 17 articles from the developing world. Scholars from countries like Kenya, Malaysia, Brazil, Mexico, India, Latvia, Portugal, Palestine and Bangladesh analyze the condition of women from different perspectives, emphasizing on the inhibitors or facilitators of women empowerment. The book is divided into three parts. Part one deals with accounts of women empowerment in different parts of the world. Part two examines the barriers and the role they play in hindering the process of women empowerment. Violence emerges as a very strong theme which has led to decline in the confidence level of women and their participation in public life is also curtailed therein. Part three of the book focuses on the role of facilitators in bringing women forward and liberating them through technology. The book would be of interest to practitioners of social sciences.
About the Book: The Kumbh Mela, held at Allahabad in the year 2013 has been termed as the largest human congregation. It is a sacred pilgrimage to the confluence of three rivers of Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswati at Sangam undertaken by millions with a belief that taking a holy dip at the Sangam will lead to “moksha” or salvation. The enormity of human congregation and logistic operations of Kumbh was a massive Governance challenge. It received appreciation both at national and global level. The head of World Bank in India described it as “an incredible logistical operation”. The researchers from Harvard described it as “a pop-up mega-city”. This book is primarily dedicated to way this challenge was met by the administrative machinery working relentlessly round the clock, often beyond the call of the duty under extremely stressful and challenging circumstances. It describes how the manpower of various agencies coming from different corners of the State fitted like a jigsaw puzzle to work as a unified team with a single vision and mission- to serve the pilgrims following the ethos of Atithi Devo Bhawah. An effort has been made to critically analyze those aspects where things could have been done in a better way. The reader will also get glimpses of various fascinating religious structures and processes like Akhadas, Peshwayi, Shahi Snaan, Naga Sanyasis, Kalpvaas, Annakhetras etc. which are so integral to the spiritual event. The book can be a useful input for policymakers and administrators involved in managing and administering events involving large congregations, crowd regulation and management of civic amenities.

You will be able to knowledgeably solicit assistance and employ consultants, advanced training, or more powerful software.
About the Book: This book is about multi-level governance. That implies that federalism is not just two tier system but a three tier system. Therefore the book contends that the studies on federalism should include the third tier of local government, and local government and decentralisation studies should conduct their studies within the ambit of federal government institutions and relations and processes. Besides this the book is also written with the conviction that within Indian polity and its contemporary political economy the State governments can do enormously more to further the cause of local government than the distant Union government can. Three reasons attest to this: (a) The constitution privileges the State governments to carry out decentralization further to the local people (b) In the present scenario of liberalized market economy it is the States which are locus of economic growth and development (c) Many observers of Indian polity too confirm that there is a shift towards the States and regions in determining even national electoral fortunes. While the above reasons strengthen federalism these three reasons are also sufficient to reconsider the relationship between federalism and local government in today's India. Does the constitutional sanction, more economic freedom and more recognition of states role within the Union-do these lead to making the lives of ordinary people better at the ground level? Does federalism mean more powers functions and resources to local governments too? These are some of the
